Hi, A company I do SEO for received a threatening email today saying. "So, before my itchy trigger finger sends off mail reporting to you to the abuse department of your ISP, your local Trading Standards Office, and various online blacklists, would you care to offer an explanation?" Is this a load of sh*t or can you get in trouble for spamming blogs? This is a real company I am doing SEO for. Thanks

None of that is trouble... Reporting you to your ISP, you might get a letter from them asking you to stop. Easy solution, don't use your home PC for spamming or at least use proxies.

Report me to my box's ISP and they'll reply "sorry for missing of understandment english very bad."

Your local standards office? I'm assuming this is the Better Business Bureau? In which case, GASP, they may write a thing about you on their website. But I doubt it seeing as it's not a complaint from a customer. Just some turd blogger on the internet.

    Oh no! Black lists.

I'd reply with a fuzzy close up picture of my balls and ask him to explain that.

Your not going to get in trouble other than with the client.

How did you spam ? Direct to their site or via a Web 2.0 ?

you should always be using a Web 2.0 for comment spam -- but also you should filter the sites beforehand to remove all the crap anyway.

tell the client that this is a common tactic from competing seo companies. tell them to not be surprised if this same guy offers his services to them.

Yes I don't think I will reply and I wasn't spamming from my home pc. It was from a VPS with private proxy's.

Just concerned as the guy you emailed them threatening said the only reason they replied was because they were a local company and were "shocked" at there tactics. hmmm.

Tip,always use a sacrifical site for the first blast then use the confirmed links for clients.
My wife went on holiday and the company changed their hotels 3 times to remote crappy places.I use a review site which shows very low ratings for them as a test site.
So I get the found links for clients but also increase this review(it's now right below the company's site with a 2 * rating lol) and they have to deal with emails like you got.
Found links are used for clients so there is no chance of emails.
