I think there was a thread on BHW several weeks back or a month or two ago..a member was having serious sleep issues.

Although I did a search I could not find the post on BHW and wondering if anyone can help.

My mother who's a senior is having serious sleep issues after hospitalization. Waiting on some meds but anyone with knowledge or experience on this I appreciate the help.

You need to take her to a doctor man...it could be post dramatic stress after hospitalization but at her age you should try to get her medical attention

she just got home from nearly 3 weeks at hospital and over 1 wk at physical therapy/rehab...

Actually we think it was the fucking STEROIDS they put her on in the hospital to increase her appetite!! Till then she had a great memory and never talking out of her mind...one day she's talking non sense to me so I ask the nurse and let him know this is new and not like this when we took her in.

The doctor comes in and says...could be the steroids..they've been known to send weight lifters outta their mind!!! I was so damn pissed...still am...think it could have been caused onset of alzheimers or something...

anyway... she came outta that for the most part but while at rehab..could not sleep for shit..crazy place and worse than hospital... brought her home this Monday..and she just ain't sleepin..if she does it's never more than hour at time.

Got prescription tonight for lexapro...hoping this will ease her mind..let her sleep..if not...maybe the hospital again but damn it...we are so sure it's their fault she got this way.

This is the hardest thing I've ever dealt with.

Thats fucked up they have to put people on steroids to increase their appetite. Weed(or some sort of medical derivative like bud oil) would increase her appetite and and nice indica strain would put her to sleep. Plus it would be way safer and more affective than steroids. I am not being sarcastic, the medical system is fucked up, hearing stories like this makes me mad. All I can say is I really wish the best for your mom.

YOU'RE RIGHT and I'm so with you.

What's more amazing..even though I was not happy with the DR putting her on that I did have an interesting conversation with Dr about weed. She seems for it as well.

How that conversation started was a guy who was in there saying they were giving him some pill with THC in it. I asked Dr about it and she said..yea..I wish we had that...who told you that.

Anyway.. the Doc had a good attitude about it and overall I liked her but I just can't believe giving someone 67 a steroid. Also, the reason she was not eating had nothing to do with loss of appetite and more to do with discomfort swallowing due to her life long illness.

Enough on our issue again. thank you all for posting and your comments. I do appreciate it. Some great peeps here.

I really don't have any insight, but you shouldn't be on BHW asking for medial help, you should be on a medical forum or something ;)

Happened to me before 7 years or so. I was ill for several days & I had similar sleep issues after recovery.

What really helped me was the atmosphere my family would create for me. Everyone would spend time with me, crack jokes get me stuff I liked and all that. Many times its not just the drugs but its the state of depression that hospitalization leaves you in.

Yea I think you're onto something we had a great day yesterday!

I've been damn busy since that post but here's some good news.

Friday night she slept all night...good 9 hours..first time in about a week but yesterday we had a great 4th she was seeming normal.

Today...kind of in and out of her worrying stage saying goofy things but not as bad as the day I posted here.

She's in bed now and I'm sure hoping she sleeps peacefully tonight but hard to tell.

Sent Dad off to the casino to give his mind a rest. On top of moms issues he's in Chemo and feeling weak off and on and yesterday mom was good but Dad was having a hard time standing off and on.

If it ain't one thing it's another..on top of this shit Dads PC really got screwed up with some shit so I've been working cleaning his PC up thru this time also. WTF

Jared255 I here ya man.. I really wanted to find that other thread as I remember seeing some interesting info that may help.

Far as we can tell it was the established medical that got her this way but who the hell really knows for sure.

Each day brings other interesting and challenging shit that's for sure.

Do some light exercise with her. Or take her to the sauna, its highly beneficial and will make anyone tired and sleep well. Just don't got 4-5 hours before your bed time
