I purchased one of these recently for a business venture, and now I'm like... should I've? I'm not entirely experienced on the property value of domain names. Thoughts?

Depends in what sense. In my opinion anything non .com is pointless. To me, if I build a brand and someone says BrandName, they are going to think to go to BrandName.com not CarWash.nyc

If you mean resell value of the domain name alone? It would have to be something really short and or 1 word to make it valuable.

Yep, most internet surfers and general public are too stupid to realize that there are any domain extensions besides .com and .org. I did however make some decent money a few years ago by selling a .me domain. They still haven't developed it after two years, I think they had buyers remorse :)
