    Hey,

Hey BHW hows it going ? I have been involved with sales of virtual goods/currencies for many years now. Throughout those years I always hear about affiliate programs, and how people make money from them. But, personally I fail to see how. I can say from my personal experience, I never fall for youtubers who send you links for products, or blog sites who do product reviews with links/discount codes. When I see people "pushing" or "promoting" products which I know are for affiliate programs, I automatically become skeptical of the product and the person promoting them. It just on a personal level sets off a red flag, therefor I never trust them - or use them. Many of the websites I operate on, in fact have all affiliate links banned because people just promote terrible products for easy money. So, when I look at affiliate programs, I think - how do other people fall for these? People talking about earning 6 figures (or more) from affiliate programs and I cannot help but wonder - how do mass amounts of people fall for it? It doesn't make logical sense to me. I am interested to see what other people think on this matter. I am posting - because I am a hypocrite and want to see if this is an actually solid/lucrative business model.

    1. Just because a product has affiliates doesn't mean it is bad.
    2. There are a LOT of people in the world, and not everyone thinks the same as you.

Affiliate doesn't necessary means bad product. You have a lot of affiliate programs offering valuable services and products to end users. You probably bought some of the services/goods through affiliate programs too but you didn't realized that it is affiliate program. End user defines what is valuable to him and what isn't. If someone wants to buy trashy products for low price than he is satisfied and it is worth to him. And one more thing, if you invest enough time and money in affiliate program than you can earn 6 figures but as any other job it needs to be done proper.

Yes, it is true that many good products do have affiliate programs, but I would still never click the affiliate link if I were researching a product. Which is how affiliate programs make their money :p I would assume that if it was linked based that most people would rather google search the product then click the link directly too it? Incase it is a fake website, bad link (etc etc). Which means even if it is a good product, if I do not click their affiliate link and go directly to the website - they would get no money for assisting in the sale.

Well, you are not my demographic thankfully.

Seriously, the amount of money one can earn as an affiliate/publisher is not a joking matter at all. You are in the minority I would suspect as many of us are able to build substantial sustainable businesses using the affiliate business model.

Yeah... Good thing I am not in your demographic tbh XD. I honestly don't even click links that often because of how many times I know people have been hacked (in the online business world) and how many times people have tried to hack me haha. I guess it is all about past experiences.

    Hi Gideons,

Affiliate sites can come in many flavors. Don't you ever feel tempted to use a coupon that offers 60% discount for hosting fees from a well known hosting site? Or, use comparison sites to compare similar products on different portals? Or click on affiliate links that are masked in informative articles? Even seasoned affiliate marketers fall for these offers :)

As people said, if it's an affiliate program it doesn't necessarily needs to be bad there are great products that you can promote. What matters the most though is how you promote it, you say you never click the links that youtubers give you, well it all depends on the kind of traffic you have, that's just an example of not so good traffic, there are people with great sources of traffic though, just think about those guys that have huge targeted lists and will just send an email about a new product, people on their lists trust them and will definitely check it out. There are also other ways of getting that traffic and the ones that know how to do that have the most to gain.

Nope, like never :p I don't really do that much online shopping, which is ironic considering I made a lot of money online...

Good conversation, I know I am probably just a bad example (but without much experience in the market I only go off what I do). Also, sorry to all the guys who have affiliate businesses who probably died a little after seeing my thread XD
