this won't work for most of you but if it does it's a great one.
My main keyword has 55,000,000 results and is fairly competitive
Today I got a oneway d0f0ll0w link from the number one site , I'm number 4-5.
they have an event calendar on their site which lists local events. I made up an event - that reoccurs every week, I then created a page on my site about the event which is nothing like my real site.
I then submitted via their web based form. this was obviously approved by someone who has nothing to do with SEO and now I have a recurring link (2 times a week) from the number one site in my niche. (which is a newslimited site for anyone who has heard of rupert murdoch, time or aol).
Now I know not many of you will be able to take advantage of this but for those who can go for it, and with a bit of creative thinking you never know
