So i had this domain which had this message displaying for past few months, i just noticed it today. It was an empty site with just wordpress installed on it. It got hacked as i never gave it any attention in past 1 year, but today i fixed it by removing all old files and shifting it to other hosting account and also submitted it to google for review, so i think the warning sign will be removed in next 4-5 days.

Now i want to start a real website on it to rank it in google. So my question is if this sites will suffer in terms of rankings in google due to this message being displayed for several month?

    Any personal experiences?

    thanks.

Personal experience says that after you recover your site you're free of penalties.

I have similar experience with a site that was hacked and got that message. Before the message is was ranked in top 3, now after the review it's stuck in pos.11 for months. I only send social signals from time to time but don't see any movements in serps.

Provided you cleaned the hack, you should see the message removed quickly. Like 24 hours.

And no, you're not affected by any penalties.

Where people fail to understand is that when you are hacked you can rank for those spammy phrases (pharma, nike, handbags, etc). So, you see an increase in overall traffic. But once the hack is cleared and you remove those pages, you obviously will lose rank due to not ranking for spammy queries anymore. People see this as a "penalty" but it's not.

But no, it's not like getting a spam or link penalty.

I got the message on my site a few days ago.

I cleaned the malware immediately and submitted a reconsideration request.

My site came back in the SERPs with better ranking actually. Well, this may be because I had built PBN links just a few days before it got hacked. So the site was still progressing in the serps while the hack happened.

Also, what archon said totally makes sense

Once you clean everything up and re-submit you'll be fine, rankings never go down simply because the site was formerly hacked, always something else at play.

The only issue you really have is making sure the hackers can't come back for a second go.
