I was reading through the free section in cl and i ran accross the ad below.... Now everyone knows how to post an ad, then set the auto response to direct them to their offer or scam or whatever, but this person actually went the extra mile to make it seem real! I give her 2 thumbs up, what about you? Heres what the ad said.

"Another in a long line of losers. 'Edna' posted a free fridge and when I inquired received a response two days later saying how sorry she was it took so long to get back to me but a previous party had fallen through and I could come get it. I asked for the location and day later I received the response the previous party was coming to get it and the confusion was due to a spam filter collecting the parties email. However, because 'Edna' felt so bad she offered me a free teeth whitening kit from the dental office where she's a hygienist, but asked me not to tell anyone because it was supposed to be for patients only. Email contained a link to Site which further supports the scam. Among other links on the page is one to make an appointment but there is no brick and mortar address anywhere. The site is registered to

    Hello,
I have received this a few times myself on The Long Island area of Craigslist, this will fool no one.
No free item and then they move on.

That is pretty good, but I would probably take this down. I don't think you should front other people's methods on an open forum. Just my thoughts. Either way, this is pretty smart and gets your link right in the ad on craigslist.

The idea is really good, the execution is the problem.

    This would be solid if:

1- the offer was related to the free ad (at least indirectly. You gain believability from a disconnect but also lose conversions.)
2- The submit form was iframed as part of the brick and mortar site. There's absolutely no attempt to make it look like this offer is actually coming from the office.
3- The site itself was more thoroughly convincing as a brick and mortar biz (as was caught by the poster of the ad you found)

#3 takes some more finesse with the free section because people are generally local. In this case how far away are you gonna search for a free fridge? If you target a commuter city and put the biz in a commutable commercial area that should do it.

I like the idea- might be worth a domain name...

this method has been posted on bhw a year ago..

nevertheless, a method that works if you put a better spin to it.

If it is a bhw member then they probably won't be real happy your posting this. Best way to get a cl ad or fb page taken down is by posting them on forums like this.

You should edit your original post to remove the identifiable info.

You're right, i forgot to take out the actual link, but as far as the post, that wasnt their post, that was something someone else posted about them, so im sure they dont care if that post gets taken down. But it did give me a backlink idea :D
