'We're About to Crash!' -- Jet Passengers Told by Mistake.

About 275 passengers flying high above the North Sea were told their plane was going down, but later learned the automated message was played by mistake, Reuters reported.

British Airways apologized for the error and quickly attempted to reassure passengers.

The flight was headed from London to Hong Kong Tuesday.

"I can't think of anything worse than being told your plane's about to crash," a passenger said of the incident.

According to Reuters, a spokesman for British Airways said an investigation was under way to figure out if the automated message played because of human error or a technical glitch.

"We apologize to passengers on board the flight for causing them undue distress," he said in a statement.

The company should have been like:
"Were giving everyone on board their next 5 flights free, but you have to sign this form saying you won't talk."

That is horrible PR for British airways. I wonder how many people crapped their pants when their heard that.

Wtf, what else do they have automated messages for?
Also, you have a higher chance of dawning in a bath tub than being killed in a plane crash.

I remember flying into Manila during the Monsoon season at night, I knew I was going to die and there was nothing I could do about it so I just closed the window shade and drank till I fell asleep. Worked pretty well. I no longer drink so in a similar circumstance I might try joining the mile high club.

Secretly, person who pressed the button is laughing so hard their side is aching.

WTF? Why do they even have an automated message like that?

I am just making a guess here:

Guess when the plane is actually going down, pilots/co-pilots need to be focus on how to land the plane safety so that some or all persons on board survive. Taking a few seconds to make the announcement could take away the few seconds of concentration that is needed.

Also, people react differently when they told they are going to die so all the other flight personnel would probably be too busy subduing and calming passengers. Making sure everyone stays put and don't do anything irrational (like trying to open the plane doors to jump out before the plane hits the ground)...
