And then you will eventually be caught and will go to jail. Don't try this at home boys and girls.

    Here's the full news article:

LAPD Search for Suspects who Lure Victims Via Craigslist

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is seeking the public?s help in searching for two suspects who robbed multiple victims at gunpoint within the past two weeks in the Topanga area.

Within the last two weeks, between the hours of 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., a series of armed robberies have occurred on De Soto Avenue and Vanowen Street in the West San Fernando Valley area. There are multiple victims who found cars advertised on the Craig?s List website with a very low purchase price. The advertised prices seem too low to be true and encourage would-be victims to rush to a pre-arranged location with money in hand. Once there, when the victims attempt to purchase the car, they are robbed at gunpoint by two suspects with handguns.

Car buyers who are buying from Craig?s List are warned not to take cash with them to purchase a car and encouraged to meet at a safe, public location, perhaps at a bank or a Department of Motor Vehicles office.

The first suspect is described as a male Hispanic 25-30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds. The other suspect is described as a male Hispanic 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 pounds.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Topanga Division robbery detectives at (818) 756-3523. During off-hours, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll free number at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (527-3247). Callers may also text ?Crimes? with a cell phone or log onto www.lapdonline.org

I was going to sell my 64 Lincoln continental and some guy kept calling wanting to come to my house. I told him I would meet him, he kept telling me that it was ok, he would just stop by. He would absolutely not meet me out somewhere, he kept wanting to come over and trying to find out what part of the neighborhood I was in. He called for about a week, finally I told him it was sold. They just wanted to see where the car was located so they could get it for free I am sure.

Oh yeah, you definitely have to be very careful with that. Trust me! I use CL on a daily basis for my offline business!

Oh man, this is bad news because of 2 things.
    1. CL becomes less safer every single day (I mean for offline stuff).
    2. I can't apply the "sell your car" method (thread was somewhere here) anymore because it just won't work. I think nobody could sell a car now because of this incident.

I sell at least 15 cars a month on CL. So if that's your issue, don't give up. Not everyone is aware of the dangers of CL. And yes that Sell Your Car method still works, i posted that thread.

Seriously, thank-you for posting this. It may save someone's life.
Most people are good people and don't think like the sociopaths who did this
so they cannot possibly protect themselves from people like this without being
    warned of scams like this.

I, however, am NOT a "good person" but rather I guess an "in-between"
and while I am disgusted with this predatory action and truly shocked
that someone would actually do it ... and could not possibly partake in
nor condone it, and hope that they catch them and also that all the
people robbed deserved it for other things they'd done in their lives ...

... I must admit that I am also facinated with the diabolical genius behind the plan.

Such a simple lure: "Cheap car-go here with cash- hurry!"
I must really work on my sociopathic intentions and earn more $$$ from CL.

I had a girlfriend once who could have helped me spin this method to fit my work,
but I'm sure she would have lied to me and said "Oh, I couldn't possibly do anything
like that..." lol -- There MUST be a way ...

"Free naked photos of me TODAY ONLY - I'm getting back at my bf for cheating on me"
-- but what do I do with all those email addresses?

    Hmmm...

I hope they catch those motherfuckers, honestly.

They're just low life scum making society that tad bit less safe to wander. Fuck them and I hope they get fuckin chulo-raped in prison eventually.

Glad to see they were only after money and not lives...Could have ended up a lot worse. How many times have CL been the headliner in different state's newspapers??? Too many times; people abuse the service in a very wrongful manner.

A LONG time ago and I mean A LOOOOOOONG time ago, I was dating a guy whose dad sold antiques.

He would buy stuff at storage unit auctions and estate sales...Well, he bought an antique Dime slot machine. It was really old but in good shape. He had it listed, and these people came and looked at it.

His dad wasn't home when they got there so we showed it to them. They talked for a while, and my BF asked me to go outside and look at their license plate, he told me what to look for because it was a vanity plate.

I came back in and signaled he was right....turns out he saw a story about them on the news...it was a Crime Stoppers ssegment, and they were paying for high dollar items with fake cashiers checks. Seriously, this was 1996. Before these scams were rampant like they are now.

I went in another room and called the cops...he stalled them for as long as I could...I explained and explained and explained what they were trying to do...I couldn't get them to send an officer out because we had "no proof." I was like WTF?!?!?!? GET OVER HERE NOW!!!! These people are wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cops never came, they said they didn't know anything about it.

They fucking dropped the ball on that one! Azzholes.

So, trying to rob people either with fake cashiers checks, or by simply taking the item is really nothing new. CL has just given them another means of finding victims instead of the local paper.

I have picked up concert tickets before but in a heavy traffic area. I never considered the idea of being robbed at gunpoint.
