This is how real money is made off of instagram using a rather irregular approach

It appears, if you want to make serious cash on instagram, bots, followers, multiple accounts, long months of building authority accs are all can be irrelevant.

How else can it be done then?

There's an "artist", Richard Prince, who prints out the screenshots of photos & comments as they appear on instagram, adds a short message as the last comment on each one, removes the original caption, turns them into large 48×65-inch canvas prints and exhibits them in NYC, he does all of this without the consent of the uploader/legit owner of the pics.

The best part: he's selling these "artworks" for $100k a pop, apparently he gives discounts, because for instance this one below was sold for only $90k lol

And here's the reaction of the original uploader of the pic, she doesn't seem to care too much:

One would think, it's clear copyright infringement, but in fact depending on the ruling, it can fall under the category of fair use and from the looks of it, he got away with it so far laughing all the way to the bank. He was sued before and he won that case.

Now what he does is frowned upon in the artist community at least for the most part, he can be accused of stealing for all they want, but at least he isn't afraid of aiming high and makes money at the end of the day.

He'll probably experience some serious copyright issues for if he expands!

Let's not forget that the "modern art market" is more likely the "Penny stocks market"... Many of you have already understood what i'm telling, but i'll explain a lil bit better.

The so called "Modern art critic" act like penny stocks speculators, they made some kind of "IPO deal" with those so called artists, buy a lot of their "masterpieces", and then use their reputation as "respected art critic" for launch this new "modern picasso" of the month. Then find a new "artist", rinse and repeat. the quality of the "art" is not very important nowadays.

    it can be

his first exhibition was a VIP event in last fall, it wasn't open for the public, maybe that's why got away with it so far, recently there was an art fair in NYC where his artworks were being exhibited and sold, i guess it will turn out soon, he is a thief by nature though who doesn't give 2 fucks about copyright :)

there was this case, when he was sued and finally he was able to win the case: "Prince also settled a multi-year copyright infringement legal battle with photographer Patrick Cariou last year. Prince's usage of Cariou's photos was determined to be copyright infringement back in 2011, but an appeals court overturned the ruling in 2013, calling the appropriation "fair use.""

now that case is a bit different, because he actually modified that pic, whereas he doesn't really do that with the instagram images

By adding his own comment to somebody's image as part of the display, he transformed the context to one of fair use. Fair Use includes commentary, discussion, parody etc as parameters that create the exception to copyright, not just direct modification of the content.

Anyone that would buy that for 100K is out of their mind.

BUT...you are right...the REAL Instagram money is made offline...but not selling art. These hookers with their booking email in their bio are killing it. Trips to Dubai for $250 to get pooped on all day long. They are crushing it. Wire transfers alllll daaayyyy loooonnnggggg.
