There is a domain I've been watching and wanting really bad for the past couple of months. I read the WHOIS information and it says the domain expires in February of 2011. I understand there is a 30-day grace period after the domain expires that gives the owner time to re-register it.

I want this domain REALLY bad and I want to know if there was a way to put first dibs on this domain via an authority domain registar, or if there was a way to know the EXACT time the domain expires that way I can try and snipe it right when it expires. :D

So many domain registrations are on auto renewal mode and they will probably renew at the last minute. I guess your only hope is to watch it with a hawk eye and try to grab it when it doesn't have an owner.

if the owner of the domain isnt making lots of money with it, this will probably work:

    Code:
    http://www.godaddy.com/domains/domain-broker.aspx?ci=14625&domaintocheck=FACEBOOK.COM
if theyre getting rich off it though, i highly doubt they will let it go unless youre willing to spend millions

Well I think the domain owner got into trouble for hosting warez on his site, so that's probably why it's about to expire. I'll take a look at the sites you guys mentioned.

Just a question - Why do you not just contact the owner of the domain? If he is not making money with it, he/she will probably let it go for a pretty fair price. If they are making money with it, chances are very high they are going to renew and you will not get it anyways. Pretty much you have nothing to lose in contacting the person and offering them some money for the domain.

Domain nabbers your best best but like they said, if it's that good it's on auto renew most likely.

Contacting the owner directly might also encourage him to renew the domain since he sees people wants it ;)

The best risk to take is of course backorder. But it also depends on the owner. Do your due diligence.

Do you have to pay first for backorder, or do you pay when you get the domain?
