    Okay guys,

    This could be really good.

We sell two products Model 1 and Model 2.

Model 1 is being discontinued but has over 500 Referring domains (50 PA - Quality links).

It does fairly well in the serps.

Our main KW can bring us 90000 a month and Model 1 is on the third page for it.

Model 2 is on the 4th page for this same KW (Holds similar serp positions).

We will 301 Model 1 to Model 2 Page.

Do you think there is a chance it might break through to on the first page for this big KW finally?

As Google will simply have to pick 1 quality page rather then two (Which might have stopped Google from giving us that position in the first place)?

Plus we won't get penalized for something like "Two many links too fast" because we are simply re-directing them internally right?

    Thanks!

PS: Yeah this could be pretty sweet!

So I'm assuming I'm on the right track here right?

You can 301 the old product to the new one safely. Within a few weeks the old page will disappear and you'll notice the true effects. Initially you'll still get traffic for the old page into the new one with no changes to SERPs, later when they reindex you'll see the real effects.

@bartosimpsonio - Thx for the vote of confidence. My manager was being a little cautious just because the number of links that I want to redirect are at 500 but I said let's do it. Looking forward to some awesome results. Cheers!

Unless the older website penalized and the penalty will pass through 301, you`ll be fine. You`re not abusing anything, you`re just telling google an old website is discontinued and moved to website 2 :)

@SunnyLeon thx for your input Sunny. No penalties here :) - I was wondering though . . . Should I expect a little drop in traffic as Google re-adjusts to the redirecting of 500+ links?

Usually transition isn`t like this. From my past experiences I can tell you that the change will take a while to be made in serps. Google will need a little time to crawl the change then it leaves you a period to change any mistakes. Once the changes roll up in searches, you should see only positive improvements, as these are old links, not new ones created in bulk.. Maybe you'll see something else, that`s just what I saw.
