    Hello everyone,

Thinking of trying to start a forum /community site for a particular niche. I am also planning to advertise via adsense. I am very curious because I never done a community site before but can it make money?

I have read that it is hard to make good decent money on forums with adsense but Is this true? Any reason why? I would think that community sites would make more money given the many pageviews, impressions, and interactions seen within a community site.

Btw, if adsense is not the best choice to make money, what would be the best way to make money with a community site?

    Thanks.

Its not hard to make. You just need to be unique and creative.

Take an example you cant create forum as a BHW. A lot of people use the BHW for a very long time and they wont come to your forum and leave bhw for sure.
Start a Forum/Website is an always great to start with. You own that source and all you need to do is to wait to get some incomes.

Its all about planning your strategies. If you pick the right niche and you make a proper assessment of your competition, you may well be able to bank. Niches where people like interacting and exchanging of ideas tend to work best for community sites.

I made my Gaming gear forum in 2012 and sold it 8 months later for x.xxx, and you have to lie to your visitors, make fake accounts, simulate conversations, et. but if you have some time, you can bank.

Much depends on your abilities. If you have something to offer in your niche, so why not

If you are a creative person and you can think of a really one of a kind niche then you have all the chances to strike gold, to say so. But either way it will require some time until you gather your user base and get the things together. Accordingly to the niche you chose, ads can be displayed to match that exact field and being a forum chances are that people actually want to click on the ad to buy that specific thing that is advertised. So, everything is linked.

You need to offer value if you're going to create a forum. You also need to create some fake members and fake conversations so that people think your forum is active and not dead.

Once you start getting a few good conversations going, you'll see a snowball effect and will hopefully start ranking for keywords related to your forum niche and therefore bringing in targeted traffic.

    Good luck bro

It's the niche, bundled with patience.

I have an adult niche forum, started in 2002 (got it 4 years ago for $2.5k, worth now $10k easy), there are stable daily posts, stable userbase, 12k uniques/day, gives about $300/month after hosting-fees, nothing to write home about, but it's super stable and not cluttered with ads, think could optimize this to $500/month but I'm lazy.

Than I started a mainstream forum about 1 year ago, a killerdomain, got some posting service where they pay their peoples a few cents per post, it's now at 10k posts, sadly the domain was banned from adsence years ago because I had them only on a small landingpage at the domain (who still made $5/day). With the Forum I earned this year zero, and put about $2k in, no success so far and need to re-think the whole strategy, and that's for sure not a forum where I need to deal with every day for a few minutes.
tried to get adsense back there with no success, they don't like forums, peoples may post copyrighted picture or even a youtube movie who doesn't belong to them and you are against adsense rules, or use the word f**k just once, bam, against the rules, even if you censor the things scriptbased, there is still some language/themes not liked by the big G.
Shortly, this project failed, win some, lose some. [good thing is I got the domain for $10k 10 years ago and got an offer last week for $50k, but I want 200....or 120....okokok,110]

Conclusion for me, if you have too much time on your hand and you are patient for a few years, it can work, you can sell advertising or promote products near the niche, forum users are usually freeloaders, they scream if there is an additional ad overnight.

If you are popular and peoples really want you, there is the system like here with donors/vip/membership for special areas, but that will be 2-3-5 years ahead than.

    Good Luck OP;-)

Making a forum that works sound easier than it is. Don't let people fool you! It will take a lot of time, money and dedication to make a forum profitable.

IMO way harder than making a blog profitable. Why? You can't force people to be active and that is what a good forum is all about.

It particularly depends upon the niche but yes its more of hard work and continuous effort to build the following organically...

I am the expert in forums. Having a forum gives you huge advantage over others in terms of showing up for "long tail" keywords. As far as having people engage in conversations on your forum is the most difficult task. Nobody will ever go to your forum and post anything. No matter how hard you try. Unless it's some kind of support forum for something big - forget about it, nobody will ever post anything on your forum. You can waste your money on PPC and other crap that don't work. You will end up dropping it. Now, I am running http://www.contenvania.com services, where I do all the "dirty" work, grading, selecting people to chat in your forum. All you do is pay pennies per post. Without ContenVania your forum will be "dead". Sooner or later you will give up. Trust me on that.

All of the pointers mentioned above are not wrong, they're all right. I'm new, but I just think that doing what you are asking may seem easy, but it's really not. It'll require weeks, maybe months of just learning mostly, and then applying it. Failing miserably. Let's not talk about you basically not having time for anything else, in your life. This is a full time occupation. And should be treated as such.

It is based on your content quality and your site must be 6 months old and you should actively participate in it.
And you should build backlinks for it and attract more visitors to your site. After you got the positive result apply to Adsense.
It will take some days to check and intimate you about your site confirmation.
