I have been taking a second look on life, and realized I need to do more good, besides, its always cool to see the smile of someones face after you have done such a thing.

I have decided that I am going to use my bicycle to get from Indianapolis, IN to Houston,TX.

I was thinking of contacting a charity about muscular distrophy and see if they would sponsor me. all in all i would need some charities to sponsor it, and im sure they wouldn't have a problem, not v ery many people would like to ride their bike that distance.

    Thoughts and Suggestions ?

I think it's a great idea overall. I think the hard part will be finding people / charities to sponsor you.

...My personal philosophy is to make as much money as you can and then donate to causes you believe in.

    Remember the bug spray!

Congrats and good luck on the ride. Keep an eye on the weather reports for thunderstorms and be ready to get wet in the random downpours.

    Wait?

So you will contact a charity to give you money, so you can give that money to another charity or give it back to the same charity :D ?

    LOL

Good luck (no sarcasm detected), good cause.

    lol.
For the guy that didn't understand. I am going to ride a bike, from indiana, to texas, to for a cause.

Pretty much ill be sponsored, and the news would hopefully take over and get funds rolling in for the charity.
as far as money, ill be only using my own money to get to texas.

Thank all of you for the support.

The charity will not sponsor you more than likely. They will make your effort an official one that they support in other ways. You are going to need other sponsors.

I would bet that your best bet is to get it all planned and release a press release telling about your ride. Not one of them 25.00 ones either, pay a professional to get a superb press release about your efforts. Im talking CNN,, USA today, the really big players.

Call any local chapters of the charity and let them know when you will be rolling by. This will hopefully help getting the word out and maybe bring you some more sponsors.

Find a major corp or two that has a history of supporting the charity you pick and write their public relations department with a request for consideration of support. Tell them in this letter what you want them to do.

Write your senator and congressman, the governors and mayors of the places you will be riding through and tell them too, they may help promote it for the PR.

Build a site and blog from the road, and when you get in Houston, look me up.

Oh one last thing, find a bicycle manufacturer to provide the bikes and cycling support. They will most likely sign up as a sponsor.
