Did a 301 redirect for the first time. Had a decent DA domain and I put it online. Then 301d it to a new domain I wanted to rank. Rank jumped to 30, then two days ago the two keywords I'm ranking fell 30 spots each. Also did citations and added to Google my business.
Could it just be dancing a bit? It's not really jumping around though just dropped 30 spots.
Could Google have possibly seen the two regions were not close for the sites and negate the link juice from it?

Anyone with experience with 301 experience a drop for a while?

I would still consider it a dance since it's just too soon to tell probably

Was hoping so, that's why I was trying to put off posting but got too impatient lol. Usually when I see dance it jumps around for a day at most not two days solid in one spot. We'll see. Thanks.

With Google nothing is happening in few days, it needs few weeks. Google getting older I suppose ;)

Same happened to me, had a site ranked #1-2 for all my keywords. Got DMCA complaint so I had to get a new domain, tried to 301 redirect and i'm on rank 20-30 :/

There is some chatter going on about update happening now, so wait for dust to settle. With google you must be patient.

Four days now and it's not bouncing around it's holding pretty steady there. Give it another few more days and if it doesn't move I'm going to guess it failed.
I wonder if I removed the 301, built the site up and used it to link to the site if that would raise a red flag.

The only time I had a bad experience like that with 301 redirects was when I moved all of the articles on my business website over to a dedicated blog folder (e.g., from site.com/article to site.com/blog/article).

I 301 redirected all of the pages using a plugin, but a couple of weeks later, I lost my rankings for several pages. For some reason, the plugin stopped working before Google could index the location of the new pages, so Google couldn't find them (therefore assuming they had been removed) and I lost my rankings for them.

As soon as I got the 301 redirect working again, my rankings came back somewhat, though they were never as good as they were before.

I just did a complete 301 redirect of the whole site. So urls were exactly the same except for domain name. Don't understand why I would just drop 30 spots like that.
