So I was recently hired to write some content, a 60 page pdf, needless to say it wasn't something that was thrown together in an hour. I completed the work way ahead of schedule and sent it to the guy that hired me(i think he was using it for a content lock or something) and he was to check it and make sure it met his expectations then send me the payment. The whole gig was done through freelancer. However, after emailing him this pdf he has vanished, have not seen him on BHW, he has not been on skype, and has not emailed me back. It has been a couple of days now and I am probably just jumping to conclusions, but I was told right after emailing him the pdf that I should receive the payment in about twelve hours. Anyway, before I jump to any conclusions I will wait a couple more days, and in the mean time I wanted to know if anyone knows of some kind of automagical software that can tell me whether or not the pdf is floating around somewhere on the internet (some kind of plagarism software i guess) so I will know if it is time to resort to shit listing him and using the pdf for my own gain.

You are WAY too nice. There's no need to be hysterical, but it is not unreasonable for you, at this point, to start a shitlist thread and calmly state the Member's name, the circumstances of the situation, etc...

These things have momentum. The longer you don't get paid, the less likely you are to get paid. 2 days is plenty. I don't care if his saintly white-haired auntie is slowly dying of liver failure due to her habit of drinking paint thinner, he can still reply to an email.

I think your instincts are correct; he's trying to avoid paying you, and your inaction is helping him. He obviously doesn't give a shit about your anxiety, why would you care about his reputation? If he pays you, they can take the SL thread down, and he can learn a lesson in communication. You can also learn a lesson in not giving all the work without getting all the money. Just remember how this feels right now, the next time you negotiate a contract for work.

Post that baby online ASAP. Get it indexed in Google before he does, time stamp and everything. If he has scammed you, to the S#$! list!

Go to the CopyScape website and put some or all of the text into the box and it will search all over the internet for it. I am whiling to be a lot of money that he ran with the pdf. You should have setup an escrow payment, where the money was locked until you gave him the product or service and then it is released by him and at the absolute best would have to be disputed by his part or yours where the truthful party wins 99.99% of the time upon showing proof.

I'd say at the absolute best, he's going to come back on and say: "Sorry sir, I have had a death in my family and have been busy handling this. I will get you the money as soon as possible." or something similar and then string you along until you lose interest in it completely. Never send a product or service upfront online, always use an escrow service.

next time - put some watermarks in the PDF before sending it

Watermarks that contain your website name for example. and try to put in the occasional **** astericks to block out some words

Hell, give it away or compete in the niche he'll be using it for. If he comes back willing to pay, scrap whatever you threw up on the net.
