This is something you all know. What I see is that they are mostly neglected because of Web2.0 fuss.

This assumption is based upon my experiences of course. While Web2.0 properties have brought nothing positive to my sites, these sites, they are extraordinary:

    - pinterest
    - scoop.it
    - instagram
    - twitter
    - facebook
    (maybe digg)

It may be time consuming but try to create accounts on these sites for every website you own and fill them with your own content. You may see good results like I do.

PS: Sites are ordered by their effectiveness.

Web 2.0 is amazing result output... make do-follow web 2.0 money to do-follow blog commenting...

What you are listing are Social Media backlinks, They are well known, nothing new. They don't carry much link juice but certainly help with diversity. Nothing beats unique web 2.0s but.

I agree with you that these are major signals that google loves but you are slightly overinflating the X100. For one of my bigger sites I have put Youtube, Pinterest and twitter on the front page(alongside my main site links) but I can still get webs 2.0s on page 2-3

Bottom line...do everything and maximise all avenues

Really?I thought they were all new and this was the first time they were listed here on bhw. Did you really read what I wrote?

Again; this is solely based on my experiments as stated at the beginning of my thread. Web2.0s were disasters for me.

Do you find they continue to generate traffic? My experience has been they are good for a boost for a few hours maybe a few days and then gone in the clutter. Stumbleupon is another good one to add. I stumble every article on my sites and it brings great traffic, again for just a day

OP.. if my understanding is right, you mean they are good for SEO purpose right? And not just for traffic.

Btw, can't I just use the same account for all my sites?

I've noticed that depending on the traffic source, there might be a different audience to your site, than you first expected. I have a blog that was about cars and it went nowhere. Someone posted a link on pinterest, and traffic is now a decent amount.

It taught me that people didn't really want to read about the cars niche, they wanted the actual pictures.

Stumbleupon and Delicious can be added to the list. Try adding them too OP and see some fantastic results.

It depends, these are social networking sites. In my experience, Twitter doesn't convert as well as Instagram/Facebook considering the same demographics.
