The whole site rankings dropped! Is this caused by comment spam links?

Hi there, I really need some help here. My website is 6 weeks old, the main keyword I'm promoting was at around position 45 a week ago, other 3 buyer keywords that were ranged from about position 8-20 without too much of linkbuilding, I also had a low search volume low competition keyword at No.1 without any linkbuilding work before.

I started comment spam a week ago, I comment spam those pages that contain many spammer links, most of them had OBLs less than 100, yet some of them have more than a few hundred or even 1000+ OBLs. I put 5 links that each links to 5 pages of my website, with identical anchor text and comment words on each of these sites earlier, later then I decided to use spun article as comments. So far I've built about 20+ pr3-pr7 backlinks over the week, most of them are pr4.

I found that my main keyword's position started to drop a few days ago, yesterday those buyer keywords' ranking had all dropped, now they are in position 30-60, yeasterday my main keyword was at 49, now is at 235! I also found the ranking of some other keywords that I hasn't promoted has dropped. The keyword that were at no.1 before is now at No.10.

So does this mean google has detected my spammy activity and penalized my website? Or is this normal google dance for newsite? Should I continue to build such comment links? And most importantly, how to regain my previous positions...?

Any info will be very appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not an SEO expert but I think your problem might be the Google "Sandbox"

G is doing some changes the algorithm seems to be more flexible, this is way your rank is drooping, they are punishing your site because you comment spam.

At this moment the penalties for comment spamming is mild, but if they algorithm improves it will get worse

Your answer is in the question itself.

Other than that, link spamming is not something you should do blindly, you need to build links slowly and consistently.

Obviously, if you suddenly start getting 1000's links in a very less time frame and that too from spammy (and unrelated) sites your ranking WILL go down.

Also, you don't always need to spam your own site...create LinkWheels and spam the properties (again with taking all precautions mentioned above). Also read this post http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/975536-post1102.html

Thanks, are you sure this is google punishment? But I read this thread before, http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/109719-supercharged-backlink-experiment-results-so-far.html and Micallef was having good result with comment spam. So I'm not sure if I did it in the wrong way.

Thanks, but I built 20 links over a week, I thought I wasn't building links that fast... And of course I wasn't not getting 1000 links in short time.

I think I'll better links to linkwheel properties rather than to the main site.

So if I continue to build links(not comment spam links),will I regain my ranking?

Yes, your ranking will regain.

Been there. Done that.

PS: After a month of safe link building, go to webmaster tools and click request review.

You are probably going to find yourself in the sandbox if you use comment spam aggressively.

There are 2 main options:

a) Blast with comment spam and wait in the sandbox until you are released.

b) Build slowly and wait around the same time as a, or even longer, to achieve your rankings.

I'm using both strategies at the moment. It looks like you simply have to wait and be patient to get a sustained quality rank in Google.

Either way, I have had success with the exact spammy linking strategy your are proposing. The sandbox period was approximately 12 weeks.

Edit:

The linkwheel method always helps, but deferring spam links through the web 2.0 properties entails a huge loss of efficiency. Properties only pass on 30% of their juice to your money site at the best of times. At worst, it can be less than 5%. This means you have to spam that much harder.

In taking this time consuming safety measure, you end up taking just as long as you would in options a and b I proposed above.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm wondering the differences between spamming and normal commenting? Is it because a site that contain spammy links that make it spammy, and any links post on this site will consider spam? Or is it because of the same comment words and anchor text on those sites?

Thanks Micallef for the clarity. I think I'll gonna stick with option b, as using comment spam will possibly get sandbox, no sales can be made during the sandbox period.
