Hi,

A lot of the SEO experts will of course be familiar with this technique , but I thought I will share it here for those that want to use the power of expired domains the White Hat way (without any risk of getting penalised .)

As always white hat techniques involves more work than black hat techniques .

I am also just posting this to give another perspective and method of utilising expired domains . I am not saying one method is better than the other and I’m not saying that having a PBN is risky .

Step 1 - Try to Make contact with previous owner
Step 2 - Agree a fair price to buy his content
Step 3 - Take all the articles and upload them to your money site
Step 4 - redirect each article page from the expired domain to the new article page on your money site .

how can I contact previous owner? and what about black hat methods?

Let me quote Google guidelines for you:
"Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site. " Source: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en

So think about it, is this method White Hat or not?

If you were to acquire another company and bought their website you also bought their content and now it’s your content . You are doing it to add value to your site by merging content which is relevant to your website and along the way this might/will add page rank . That is not manipulating .

Buying another company and getting their content is not violation, however LINKING from their website to your own with the purpose to increase your ranking IT IS violation of Google guidelines, so IT IS Black hat. There is NO such things as White Hat link building.

Well then the purpose won’t be to increase ranking . The purpose will be to increase content and user engagement .

Yeah with expired domains? Anyway talking to the old owner and getting penalized by Google are completely different and non related things at all. Google penalize you for unnatural link building, for duplicate content, for anchor over optimization and so on, not because you are using someone else old domain.

Thanks for the idea. I thought of using content from expired websites with the Wayback Machine, but it seemed unethical. However, if you make contact with previous owners, then you might get legal rights to use it. That is a fair deal.

I remember restoring a website from an expired domain and the original owner contacted me to at least change the bio of the author page. So if you restore a website be sure to remove any information related to the previous owner!
