Wiki's have been on google's shit list after the penguin update. I personally had them absolutely poison one site of mine that I aimed too many directly to... very bad stuff.

But are they still useful at all? Are they good maybe for back end? Are they as good as bookmarks even anymore? Are they as good as blog comments even???

What is the best way to USE them post-penguin...?

I've sent thousands and thousands of them to my money site without any negative effect. Most of them are nofollow anyway...

If you are hesitant to use them in bulk, just use them for diversity.

I use only 500 But with PR directly to money site but just for ip and anchor diversity.

So would you say they are as "safe" as bookmarks then? Or are they only safe if they are of a high enough PR? I find this odd given my experience.

Good spin article always do wonder. I have quite good success with wiki links so far. What i wanted to say is that diversify your links.

I guess if you're doing it correctly; not too many, nice spin then you're still good to go.

I can't say the wiki links still useful or not... i just noticed that most wiki's are nofollow which dosn't give huge effect IMO.

but personally i still use them for my tier properties. as mentioned above, Diversity.

the media wikis that nearly all providers offer are 99.99% no follow, while the MacOC and wikkawakka (sp) are nearly all do follow

with that said, I have also linked all my sites from thousands of all wikis and have seen nothing but positive effect; same applies for all kinds of links btw even after the penguin

I'm using wikis with massive anchor diversification. Those links are not intended to boost rankings directly but to add natural looking to my backlink profile.

I use them to deoptimize some of my sites, or for tier 2 backlinks.

I, too, mostly use them for diversity and little else. In themselves, they aren't very powerful (on the smaller scale).

Sounds like most people have the strategy down. Use Wiki links to further diversify your profile and water down your anchor text backlinks. Or, use them as a tier 3 backlink pushing links.

Either way they still work, albeit not as effectively as they used to.

Ah, so using them to water things down with "click here" type stuff on the back tier is really what people are using them for then. Makes sense, I was blasting too many directly to MS with real anchor text when I got trouble.
