The truth about c blocks, unique ips, dedicated ip....

Ok, lets spread some marshmallows, light a fire and talk about ip address.

According to google's Matt Cutts(infamous anti-spammer from google) he is urged to present idea to people that google in fact does not put much value in ip address.

What is interesting is this was 3 years ago(imagine some things might or might not change atm)

So according to Matt google wouldnt seem to care more about dedicated ip address then lets say simple shared hosting ip domain on fatworm.com newbie hosting.

Which then again questions the need to even use c-class ip blocks to protect yourself from google's eyes.

Which also questions the infamous story of a guy busted with "dozens of websites that all got taken down by google"

So Matt it seems your story doesnt hold the water here...

If a guy is under shared hosting on same ip as bunch of others how the hell did you take down bunch of sites from that guy using ip block information, or do you just want to scare people into thinking google has control and can tell things just by ip address?

Note i am aware there is domain privacy and all but he was claiming they took him down simply by ip

So what about you, do you care about your ip address or not?

If you ask me, i dont.

I'd bet $100 the first user to be searching site:hisurlshere.com over and over before it's even indexed is going to be the same person. That's not how they do it, but that's just an example. You gotta think outside the box. Google probably has access to ICANN resources that allows them to know sites owned by a single person when they request it.

I know for certain some communication departments of the US Navy can as well. I'm sure there is far more groups that can that we just don't know about. I guess as usual in life it's just about not pissing off the people with more power than you.

If a bunch of sites are all on the same IP, searching through domain tools and checking out other sites is likely to give some sense of which ones have the same ownership. To knock out 10 with similar formats on the same IP seems very doable. A larger number, not so much.
