    I tried. I tried. I tried. I?ve failed?.

I tried so hard to change my life, to improve my life style, to get the best of it. But all the time, I end it up playing those stupid games on my PC or on my phone, looking at those TV commercials more than 4 hours per day :(Sad? I wasn?t the person I want to be. I want to be a super-model for my kids, not the lazy person with bad habits and a depressive life.

I read a lot of books, I went to several workshops and seminars about ?How to change your life?, nothing helped me.

So, one day I discovered a simple 3?step pattern that helped me to change my old habits. These 3 steps are:
    • Reminder ? set an alarm, a trigger that reminds you?re doing something wrong
    • Routine ? no matter how hard is it, do it every fucking day
    • Reward ? breathe and tell yourself: ?Today was a good day!?

Let me show how I applied these 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Use a current habit or an action that you made every day as the reminder for your new one
For example, I created a new habit of flossing each day by always doing it after
brushing my teeth. The act of brushing my teeth was something that I already did and it acted as the trigger or cue to do my new behavior.

To make things even easier and prevent myself from having to remember to floss, I bought a bowl, placed it next to my toothbrush, and put a handful of pre?made flossers in it. Now I see the floss every time I reach for my toothbrush.

Setting up a visible reminder and linking my new habit with a current behavior
made it much easier to change. No need to be motivated. No need to remember.

How to choose your reminder? For example:
    ? Get in the shower.
    ? Put your shoes on.
    ? Brush your teeth.
    ? Flush the toilet.
    ? Sit down for dinner.
    ? Turn the lights off.
    ? Get into bed.

You?ll often find that many of these items are daily health habits like washing your face, drinking morning tea, brushing your teeth, and so on. Those actions can act as reminders for new health habits.

Step 2: Make your habits incredibly easy to start

If you want to start a new habit and begin living healthier and happier, then I have one suggestion that I cannot emphasis enough: start small.

In the beginning, performance doesn?t matter. What does matter is becoming the type of person who always sticks to your new person ? no matter how small or insignificant it seems. You can build up to the level of performance that you want once the behavior becomes consistent.

    Step 3: Always reward yourself

It?s important to celebrate. :weather02When it comes to sticking to better habits, there is an important reason to always reward yourself: we want to continue doing things that make us feel good. And that is why it?s especially important that you reward yourself each time you practice your new habit.

For example, if I?m working towards a new project, then I?ll often tell myself at the end of a day, ?That was good day.?or, ?Good job. You made progress today.?

That?s the story of life, people! Hope you?ll try it and start improve your life! Some day I?ll post this on my personal blog.

    Cheers,
    b

Good advice. I found that I needed a reason to work hard as well - I had to think about what I really wanted and why I wanted it (For me I want to provide for my kids + family in general) and having that in your mind makes you far more motivated because you are doing it all for a good reason.

    Hey,

There's one sentence that I tell myself almost every day, which motivates me enormously to be productive and give my best. I told my cousin the same, and he does it now too.

    I tell myself following:

"I'm a human. I'm part of the most powerful and most intelligent species in the known universe. SO F*CKING ACT LIKE IT!"

    warm regards,
    neocortx
