I feel bad for you guys. I feel bad for myself too. I think we're all in the same boat. Many of us are stuck practicing all sorts of marketing tactics that we aren't proud of. Let's face it -- a lot of what we do is openly hated by the general public. So why do we do it? In my opinion, it's a product of our upbringing.

I suspect, that most of us grew up in some form of poverty. Perhaps not poverty, but in an environment where our opportunities were limited. Be it, a broken home, financial burden, emotional instability, or other significant burdens.

I suspect, that most of us would love to have a proper occupation that does not involve these tactics. An occupation that allows us to hold our head high, that allows us to bring a decent income home to our families. For occupations are not purely about income; they are also about personal dignity.

Internet marketing is supposed to be an equalizer of sorts. Our start-up costs are low and we don't need much initial capital. We can maintain a level of reasonable anonymity. The skills can be learned and all you need is a flexible moral compass. What other industries offer such opportunities? None, really.

Based on our individual circumstances, we have been pushed into this industry. I don't think any of us do this because we are passionate about it. We do it out of necessity. We do it because we have to.

I guess I'm bitter. Fuck anyone who feels they have truly "earned" their law degree from that prestigious university (while being shuffled along by mom and pop). Fuck anyone that has received trust fund dollars. Fuck anyone who dares to look down upon us.

    Sorry. Needed to bitch.

i think you have definitly a point there, when i analyze the personalities of different bhw members on this forum many of them including me dont come from rich families, or lets say rather poor ones.

many of us have no degree but still we are smart
if you are smart but dont have a degree internetmarketing is a great opportunity as you say

More on a serious note, It is the money that drives the world out there. Why do you care about other's opinion? You need to look after your family and make sure that they are alright. Never care about other's opinions on you. They are just jealous faggots. And yeah, I know some of the guys who make 10x more than the ones having some serious degrees.

The world isn't as black and white as you think. There are so many different people here for so many different reasons. Trust me, most of us aren't here as a last resort.

Yep. The OP overlooks the drawbacks of being a high-powered lawyer or doctor. Like 60-80 hour workweeks packed with stress and inflexibility or the 7-10 years of study required. Or the promise of being in business for yourself. Like the potential to earn more than whatever the career market tops out at.

I really don't see your point ? Blackhat IM blahblah hold your head high, this is marketing nothing more nothing less even big Coca Cola does it, you are not proud of yourself quit it and go do something else.

Don't blame the kids who get a lawyer degree from Ivy League, you didn't have that chance ? Guess what a lot of us didn't either. How you are making money isn't important, it all comes down to your skills and will.

For me you are bitching because world is not fair, it never will face it. If you despise yourself so much doing IM you are free to quit and flip burgers or be an artist or drink beer all day.

You are the master of yourself not anyone else, stop bitchin' get to work!

Yep. I have had plenty of opportunities to further my potential of getting a "real job" that pays well, but I mostly choose to ignore these opportunities, because I refuse to be a 9-5 guy. I don't see how that's shameful in the least.

And as Chris said - it's not black and white. To claim that, as you put it, "I don't think any of us do this because we are passionate about it" is just plain insulting. Stop being a self-hating IMer.

This is very true. There is nothing to be ashamed of in Black Hat SEO. You hardly need to have a "flexible morale compass" to guest post on some blogs for backlinks.

I appreciate your perspective. You do not have to be poor to look for a way to exploit something or "game a system" I would say a lot of bh's are the people who stand back while everyone else is busting their ass working and brainstorms an easier way to get the same job done. Work smarter not harder ;)

Never read so much bull before.
Don't think that using in your thread the title "A socio-economic analysis" gives
    it any authority.
    Who's "Us" and "We"?
Don't include me in your wealth envy psychobabble!

You are wrong ... I'm just another example of a person who really loves to game the system for the sake of it

Don't feel bad for me OP... I am a lazy fucker and can barely bring myself to sit on my ass at home and earn. The last time I checked my moral compass it was pointing toward my bank.

Yeah, it's really more of a short rant than a "socioeconomic analysis." There is nothing technical or scientific about this at all, and it's based on nothing but his opinions.
