I am getting fairly sick of answering the same PMs and seeing the same threads over and over again. The same 'questions', and the same 'answers' are being spread around and frankly, it is sickening. If you think I am talking about you in this thread, most likely I am.

    Here we go....

The Reason(s) You Can't Rank Your KWs OR Make Money

    1. You Listen to 'White Hat' SEO's

This is the biggest reason you will not make money in SEO or IM. You listen to 'White Hat' guys. I am in the Long Term SEO Game. I want my sites to last at the very least 1 + Year(s). How do I build links?

    1. I do it randomly.
    2. I test before I use it on a 'money site'
    3. I NEVER follow the same pattern twice

I am a LOT more anal than other SEO's when it comes to link building (And I like the word 'anal' so I use it as often as possible). On some sites I am as clean as a whistle and only build 'safe' links. What I deem as safe and what 'White Hats' deem as safe are completely different things.

What do 'White Hat' Guys believe? You must follow the rules of Search Engines. This means:

    1. No Link Building
    2. No link begging
    3. No Web 2.0s
    4. No link Manipulation
    5. No Guest Posts
    6. No Blog Comments
    7. No Forum Signatures

I can keep going. Any way you intentionally try to put your link(s) some where, it is intentionally building links and going against Googles TOS.

If you plan to build ZERO links and 'hope' people will link to you, you will make no money. Game over. Unless you plan on letting your site age for give or take a decade, and keep building to it, you will never make money.

If you listen to those 'White Hat' Gurus you will never make it.

    2. You listen to the 'White Hat' Black Hat SEO Guru's

This is taking advice from the guys who tell you 'too many links at once will hammer your site'. Or, 'X link type will hammer your site.'

If you do some testing, you will learn that you can rank with:

    1. Blog Comments
    2. Contextual Links
    3. Article Links
    4. Guest Posts
    5. Web 2.0s
    6. SAPE
    7. Wiki Links
    8. Ect.

If you have the right KWs, or enough links, you can link with almost anything. It is not a magic number of how many of X type of links you need to use in order to rank a specific site.

Some people will tell you 'build under 10 links a day OR ELSE'. If you listen to these people, you will never make as much money as you could.

If you test you will learn some facts:

    1. 10,000 Blog Comments in One Day can get you a penalty
    2. 1 Web 2.0 in One Day can get you a penalty
    3. No link building can get you a penalty (Go to Googles webmaster forum and check out people who get penguin or panda hits)

The fact is, you need to test to figure out what is your 'risk tolerance' and what is too much and what is not enough.

    3. You lack 'Courage'

You find a juicy KW like 'pay day loans' and think if you get to page one you can make a killing. But then you come on BHW or Warrior Forum and you read that if you build more than 'X' links a day, your site will get hit.

The fact is if you do not build links, your site can get hit. So, why play it safe? I know, you do not want to put on your rainbow cape and scream at the top of your lungs "Come and get me Google! My body is ready!" But at the same time, anything you may do, or may not do, may get your site hit.

We also know if you do not go big, you will not make money.

Lacking courage to build some darn links you will never make money. Either way you can watch your site get tanked. So build links and enjoy it while you can.

    4. You rely on other people to RANK

This is the last, and most important part of SEO and why you suck at it.

You listen to other people and take their word as truth without testing. Or even worse, you follow a SEO Blueprint (My own thread included) without testing it.

Or the cardinal sin, paying someone to do SEO for you before you know SEO.

Let me put this into perspective. You come on BHW and ask, 'How many links a day are safe to build?'

You will get dozens of answers. Ranging from 'as many as you like' to 'one link a day'.

The truth behind all of this is no one knows. If you test you have an idea of some general rules. But nothing is guaranteed in SEO. No one has the answers 100% guaranteed.

This applies to any and every sales thread or SEO you work with. You can't rely on someone else to figure out how to rank your site(s) and hand you free money. This is not realistic nor does it make sense. You need to learn how to do your own work and figure it all out.

I was once one of the noobs scared of doing SEO.

I finally said fuck it and starting building links (not gsa spam) and 4 months later the site was making 1k+ a month and I sold it for 8k (yes ik its low but it was in the ppd niche)

That was literally the VERY first time I did seo EVER and I managed to make 10k+ in 5-6 months from 1 fucking site.

Stop worrying so much and JUST DO IT.

    Good article.

Naivety, blind hope and stupidity are also main reasons.

As is a lack of will in investing in your sites and links.

People still think they can write their own crap content, or pay peanuts for crap content, throw $10 worth of crap web 2.0 links at it and make money.

For any serious niche, those days are long gone.

Totally agree with you, many of sites I worked in just ranked in Google 1st page with just thouthands of mix platforms back links, no limits except the client budget of continual link building campaign,
Also I believe that no one can hit my site by giving millions of links to it, it is not a logic rule

you said correct OP, everyday I came on BHW and find the same post.
How many web 2.0 or blog comments are safe for my site?
    Is sape for my site?
Can I build PBN and rank my site?
    Why my serp ain't improving?

I've stop replying to this sort of threads now.
A knowledgebase should be created for this stuff I guess :)

Nice post OP. Good list as well. I like the first point - it is often the case, if you listen to white hat SEO guys then it would scare you away from almost any link building strategies mentioned here:)

I think the main thing though is that you are realistic about your goals and the types of methods you are using - just appreciate that if you are going against google TOS there is a chance you can get caught, but thats part of the game.

That is a huge newbie mistake, but I have seen it mentioned a lot, excluding how many times I say it. I hope newbies know that by now.

But it was a huge miss by myself, good catch.

You need to pad your post count so your can con newbies. Blackhat 101 IMO.

I am not quite that mean. Well, normally.

    Amen.

I originally called 'courage' 'balls'. You need to sack up and try if you ever want to make it.

Although I may disagree with not being able to make it with garbage content, I find that if you have garbage content your site will not last as long as you will often get hit sooner. I find the page two to one push is a LOT harder with junk content as well.

Then again, this is from a bit of experience. For a newbie learning as they go, junk content will extend the point of making money by quite a bit. Stop being cheap and play with the big boys if you want to make money.

Once you go 'big' you tend to find you rank easier and do not worry as much. Funny how that works.

If we had a knowledge base, I highly doubt newbies would read it. That is the catch 22.

The problem is if you do nothing you can also get hit. So go ahead and try it. You are not in any more danger by trying when it comes to algo penalties. Manual penalties are a different story all together. But in general, until you get the attention of a manual reviewer, you are not at a higher risk by trying to rank than not trying.

Funny because I have been reading and studying for quite some time. I have gone in circles much the same way that this is spelled out. I have taken the attitude that I am basically gray hat. I have 3 sites that I am working and 2 are very permanent sites, however, I have done a little black hat on them and it is sticking. In fact, my main site that I have worked on has been ranking on the first page at #5 to #7 for 8 months. Now the kw is low volume and not much traffic from it but it was a first try and it is nice to see it there on the first page for a rookie.

Thanks for this post and will heed your advice and comments

You CAN write your own crap content or pay peanuts for crap content and make money. Depends of the niche again. This is the reason a lot of people also don't make money - because they are outsourcing expensive ass articles thinking it will help them rank somehow better. No, it doesn't.

Any color hat someone claims to be is either someone lacking experience or a marketing tactic.

I treat life in the way of Jeet Kune Do. Use what works, discard the rest.
