why do people think they can copy a method verbatim and expect to bank consistently?

for example, they try running cold facebook ads to a shitty shopify store that is selling dog trinkets. then they complain that they've spent $100 in ads and have only made 1-2 sales

    i don't understand

Because people want short-cuts and think that stuff like this comes easy.

    You gotta innovate.

Guides & tutorials are rough methods that you are supposed to adapt with your own ideas to experiment and test out.

A lot of people doesn't understand that copycats will never succeed and they just want to make an easy buck.

    Protip: it's not easy

People don't want to take responsibility in that the fault is in them or how they do it, rather than the method. Instead of asking "what can i do to make it work for me" they ask "will this work for me" and if it doesn't work, it is so much easier to say "i guess it just doesn't work anymore/for me/in this industry" rather than "what do i need to change to make it work".

Once people take responsibilty their whole world can change for the better very quickly. But it is so damn difficult to admit to ourselves that we suck at this currently and need to improve to get any results.

Einstein used to say that "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe"

There's a huge difference between a tutorial/guide and a step by step method. Some find it easier to follow the step by step from start to finish. Smarter people take the basis and add their own twist.

How many people cook to a set recipe without ever experimenting and adding something new into there?

for those that sincerely try, i think they are just novice to the scene. they imagine you can copy the steps and it will work. rarely does. the slice of the pie is very narrow after 1000 people try it. and OP's usually don't post the full story or share after they milked the cow dry.
if these novices are still around after the failing methods, they will have learned an array of strategies. those new tidbits of info go a long way to help one find out one of the most important things on bhw: "twisting" a method.
