Just came across this blog by the legendary Seth Godin and below is my personal take on the matter:

Everybody wants attention. They want to be popular. What they don't want, is to put the work in to bring real, tangible value to the table.

Pick your poison. You either pimp out your dignity for attention, or you dig deep and come up with way to add real, tangible value to people's lives.

Too bad I don't use social media :(

in life everything has its good and bad sides and behind everything someone do, there is something that motivate someone to do it either for self or other interest

The modern day rendition of "Selling your soul"

The journey of mastering your craft and building a legacy is much more rewarding then being popular. More than often the attention goes to their head, and it becomes and addiction. A constant need for positive reinforcement through these channels can lead to a very unhealthy disorder.

I see a lot of issues in the future stemming from this. Think about how our next generation is going to come into the workforce, when they are surrounded by the fluff the social media world brings. And how our current generation in the future is going to leave a huge gap for work/life experience. When these social figures become irrelevant and need to enter the workforce, what will they have to show? A decade of being a content creator and managing a following on social media? Perhaps that will be our new recession. A lack of experience and skills that are due to the digital age.

In the long run it does more damage than good.

Stay in school and become a professional, or learn a skilled trade/craft and be rewarded for your hard labor work.

Showcasing your life on social media is not a way to make a living.

Social media is 100% fake it till you make it, even then I suspect there is a ton of faking going on. I've tried working with influencers in the past and I've always come to the same conclusions:

1. they want too much money
2. it's not worth it.

Regardless of the numbers of followers or who they are, they always fall into point 1, after paying it always comes back to point 2.

Like anything in life if you can turn your hand to it and make a living well done. For me it's not something I'm interested in.

Try dealing with instagram 'influencers' with 2k subs, think the sun shines out of their rear end.
