    Reading this old article: http://singularityhub.com/2012/03/23/51-percent-of-total-online-traffic-is-non-human/

Do you think that might play a role into these updates? If the # of fake traffic is that high, wouldn't it make sense for Google to cut away with SEO. So they kill two birds with one stone, getting ride of sites using seo to rank to increase their profits, but at the same time lowering the amount of resource costs needed on their end.

This is not new, if you look at your host awstat and compare it with GA you will see just how many bots are hitting your site on daily basis.
And most of the traffic got nothing to do with SEO

Nope - SEO still works just fine.

The top ten sites for just about every competitve phrase you want to look at have active and large SEO campaigns.
We all know that for 2 days "makemoneyonline dot blogspot dot com" or whatever the site was called, ranked, but I can't find more than a dozen examples of this kind of anomaly in literally tens of millions of commercial phrases.

I'll be blunt, all this nonsense about "SEO doesn't work" is starting to get on my nerves.
SHIT SEO aimed at SHIT websites doesn't work - and after 16 years doing this and looking at hundreds of sites a week I can tell you most websites made by so called "IM SEO guys" are total crap - and that includes a lot of the sites I see linked to by members here.

Sorry if that offends - but that's the way it is.

Good SEO aimed at Good websites works fine. Always has, probably always will.
