I read if you use https on your site, you can still get the data. I didn't try it though.

Do you guys remember Google buzz, Google Answers, Google Image Labeler and etc? - They all are discontinued.
This will not happen, and if it will than we will find another alternate of this.

I can tell you this effects mid-large SEO agencies that deal with "real" clients for sure. If you don't think so, you're kidding yourself.

This is an important change for sure, not sure how people in this business can disregard it so easily.

Remember when Yahoo Site Explorer close? Now we have to pay for the shitty seomoz tools, majestic and ahrefs and all of them together only provide a fraction of the information yahoo used to give out for free.

The fact that Google will not share data about the searches with you will be a real problem for seo, and even if there is an alternative to be found, the alternative will be much weaker - and probably paid - and can't hold a candle to the amount of data google had.

It's a sad day for sure.

Google looks like it wants people to start spending on their remarketing tools alongside Adwords campaigns. It's becoming more focused on paying Google to keep track of data for you with no real free alternatives. I'm not saying its the death of SEO, its really just the death of that extra lump of cash sitting in your pocket. Sure a lot of poor marketers are going to get crapped on by this change, but it really just makes more business for Google. It looks like it is time for people to become smarter and use these changes for advantages.

Not Speculation... Google is transitioning to 100% not provided via secure search... brace yourself, winter is coming.

The real issue is now how can you prove YOU brought in the traffic and they wouldn't have gotten it anyway? You cant segment by branded v non-branded so how are you going to prove your work is what caused an increase in traffic?

This is happening and an alternative (at least to keyword data) won't be available. Google owns 95% of data online and they are pulling it. The referrer data is getting stripped before the SERP is loaded so there is no information for third party analytics software to pull either. The alternative is user data and educated guesses through ranking and traffic.

This is a big deal, I agree with Nick Flame (Sorry didn't quote your first line cause I saw it after I puzzled out how to use multi-quote) I don't see how people in this industry can disregard this so easily. Google is slowly but surely removing all of SEO's tools and pushing people towards adwords. Does it not seem odd that they removed this data for "security purposes" but if you use adwords you can still get it? So for a small fee, you can access people private data that Google supposedly doesn't want to share.

Like Agent Mango said "how do we track conversions now" The short answer is, it won't be easy. And explaining it to your clients won't be fun either.

The toughest part will be that our industry already is considered sketchy and now we wont have much hard data to prove that we aren't. How do we sell SEO when we can't prove that the traffic they are getting is from our efforts. It is a sad day indeed.

If I could post links I would but Moz posted a whiteboard tuesday today on how to deal with this and distilled has a decent article as well.

You need to reread. Issue is not with Analytics. Piwik can't do much as there won't be any data supplied by google search engine.

Right now I analyze the percentages of keywords that do show and apply them across the board. If your site is getting upwards of maybe 5,000 hits/month, odds are the keywords that do show and their respective percentage of total non-hidden traffic applies across the board. Would need a statistician to verify what level becomes statistically accurate, but thank God not everybody is surfing Https these days.
