Never add overhead until it is necessary. If it is necessary for you to go do this office in order for you to have the discipline to work, go for it.

In my case, I have a home office. I get up in the morning get dressed, and go to work in my office. I set up a timer and work 5 hours, then take a break.

After the break, I work 3 more hours, then take another break. After that my work day is done, even though I often work on stuff later in the day because I want to.

It comes down to matter of discipline.

IM is about self determination. You have the ability to determine the outcome of your life.

But no one, nation or man, will ever have self determination without self discipline.

You need to find the tools, office, software, someone who hits you with a pillow when you start fucking off, or whatever it takes for you to learn and exercise self discipline, you cannot succeed without it.

Productivity in any business trumps a lot of other factors for success and if an outside office works for you in that area you should absolutely spend the couple of dollars.

I have an office in the house I use periodically and am reasonably productive there but I am much more productive at my own office which is about 4 miles away.

I also have a client that has an office in his building that I use periodically. That is a little unusual as a set up for most people but he pays me an awful lot and likes to see me around there at times. I don't work exclusively for him when I am there but it is a bit of a sales call (our biz is 90% relationship sales) as well as a good working environment.

Another thing I have is a membership at a co-work place that I go to a couple three times a month which gives me a different perspective on things and is also a place of business.

Anything outside of the house that is a place of business/office environment is significantly more productive and worth the couple of dollars I spend a month and I bet it would be the same for you.

Maybe I just need to set myself some more strict targets. Maybe invest in a sort of 'time in/time out' type thing, and aim to hit a certain amount of hours per day

I know this sounds really stupid, but as of tomorrow. I'm going to start wearing a shit/chino/suit (smart work clothes...) and then sit down at home desk in my living room, to see if it helps me feel more like I 'should' be working.

Sort of a mind trick type thing

Anything that could make you more productive and more efficient is worth considering.

If you do not have a designated office in your home then I would suggest getting an office space. I had an outside office for over a year but found myself going to it less over time. Found it was much better for me to have a home office.

When you rent an office space make sure that the place is easily accessible for your employees and clients. Search around and you will easily find one.
