I wonder how much tier 2 backlinks matter?
There was a website that i have been working on for a few months. It made it to bottom of page 2 and got stuck there. No matter how many blog comments I did, it would not move.
Then, I made a blog comment on a page that has a lot of backlinks. I guess people found this page informative and linked to it.
As soon as it got indexed, my site moved to middle of page 2.

this could be a coincidence because there is that huge update going on and all sites are fluctuating. or it could be because the backlink is highly powerful.

What do you think? should I focus on getting tier 2 links?

is it better to get 10 backlinks from 10 blog comments that have no tier 2, or 1 backlink from a blog comment that has a lot of tier 2?

Tier 2 is essential to index your tier 1 links and to power them.

Okay, so there are a couple things that could have had your site sitting in the same spot.

    1) The competition simply had better backlinks.
    2) Google and other search engines just felt like the sites ranked above yours was more relevant before your link boost.
    3) It just took time for Google/Search engines to index your backlinks.

Just because you leave a comment on a Blog post with your link, it doesn't mean it will be INDEXED even if the site is crawled. Google will also sandbox or simply overlook links that they find spammy. You should consider the context of the links you post....

As for Tier 2 backlinks, they are helpful when it comes to indexing your backlinks that point to your main site. In other words, if you post a Blog comment that isn't crawled or not crawled deep enough, your site won't get credit for that backlink. The Tier 2 backlink is a way of saying, "Hey search engines, check this site out, you might have overlooked it." That alone will give extra credit to your Tier 1 backlink, so yes, it DOES help.

Though it should be noted that a low-quality backlink is simply low quality. Building off of them isn't a good idea in the long-run and can get your site penalized instead of rewarded.
