I have seen many sites ranking for a damn difficult keyword with just a few hundred links, & all of them come from a blog usually.

What do you think the power of Guest Blogging is? What else do you think WHITE HAT SEO is? & your experiences?

Links from relative blogs and websites help a ton. Guest posting is a must for some niches.

I would sooner create my own private blog network than guest post. Much less time consuming and prob. more effective.

The problem with private blog network is avoiding footprints. If the network links to more than one of your sites, then that is a footprint. With guest posts you post once, and are done with it. I think it is worth having some third world workers scour the net, contact blogs and get guest posts. Then can use a very well spun article for placement. Much better IP diversity.

Is guest blogging really white hat? I mean, you're placing your link there, so it's "unnatural linking" from the Google point of view. But whether it's white, grey, black, blue, pink, etc, it doesn't matter as long as it works. As MP mentioned, as long as it's a relevant source it should work fine.

Oh, look, Mat Cutts has a guest post on his blog and a backlink was provided for her business area. :D (Of course, I'm joking, it's not meant in a serious way.)

If you want complete White-Hat SEO, then guest blogging is or should be on the top of your list for activities to do. It will require you to write something useful, original and engaging for the recipients and reading of the blog it's going on... but, isn't that was White-Hat SEO is all about?

I think of guest posting like social media interaction without being on a social media platform.

Since the internet/search engines want us all to be friends and play nicely with each other, by displaying that kind of collaboration of guest posting ("writing on each other's walls") is seen as a positive and a move in the direction that framers hope the internet will become.

I always loved talking to blog owners in a related niche that I wasn't competing against directly with to work together. Legitimizes the whole idea of operating online to me, and makes it seem less like machines communicating with machines.

Feels good when people work together to produce something and bring some bacon home. Feels good man

I wont say if its good or not. I'll rather share my experience, feel free to judge by yourself.

With 3 guest post in an easy competition niche, I went from 10th to 6th.

I sometimes wonder about the effectiveness of guest post links because they are typically at the end of the article and the blog post may be a few clicks away from the homepage. Also the intent of the link is not because of a recommendation of content but because they did a service for you. Do you have any thoughts about this?

I think I already sent it to you. Look at Candybar thread. I believe that Wannabie talked a little bit about it too in one of his thread.
