I wanted to share with you the power of the doc share sites. I did a little test last week and I could not believe what it did for the site. I wanted to share this with you all.

This test was for a local landscaping company so the keyword was

    landscaping city, state

This area is saturated with landscaping companies but the competition is not overly difficult. The key here is that this was one link that moved the rankings.

Here is the other kicker that you will find interesting. I started the 2 sites in question less than 10 days ago and got these kinds of results.

Site 1 is a document sharing site that I uploaded a document to with the links to the customer site.

Site 2 is a microblog. Kind of like twitter but I allow up to 1500 characters. Now on this site I set up an account and tied it to automatically post to facebook and twitter when ever I post there. I posted a short blurb with the link to the document and then the site posted to twitter and facebook. The FB account it posts to is a fake one with only one follower and that is me.

That is all I did for this. There has been no other backlinking done for this keyword on this site. Before the start he was sitting at #20 for that keyword. I checked the ranking 7 days later and he had jumped to #12

All of this movement from using 2 sites that are less than 14 days old and the doc share site is the only one that links to the money site.

Made a believer out of me as far as doc share sites go. Just imagine what a site that has been established can do for your site.

Before you ask, no I am not going to share the sites. I don't want to get slammed with porn, pharma and warez on these sites. They will be found soon enough without me showing them here.

LOL one reason not to share the site here... I would love the content but not at that cost. I have used scribd but never done a single test like this. For now this only supports PDF but since it is open source I am sure it will improve as time goes on.

The microblog site has already been discovered and is getting hammered by 2 users but since nothing is linking to a bad domain that is ok.

Just uploaded a doc to SlideShare and DocStoc. We'll see if it makes any difference.

Hyperlinked my URLs to my anchors (2 URLs).

Going to build social network and web 2.0 profiles to them and then backlink those backlinks. We'll see how it works out.

It is not a magic pill and should be one of the things that you are doing but I just wanted to test and see how it did. Especially with this being a brand new site.

    Hey,

I was looking into doc sharing sites a couple of weeks ago. To make sure I have this correct I just submit my PDF to them and put my URLs right in it and it gets indexed/crawled or I submit a random PDF to them and then just stick my URL in the description or in my profile? Thanks I have 0 experience with these types of links but it sounds interesting and I always like to dabble with new angles :)

No the link goes right into the document. I use Google Docs for this as I do not have a pdf creator that will keep the links live but you can export a PDF from Google docs and the link is live there. The all you do is upload the pdf to the site.

    Thanks... LOL

I only use one doc site and one document in this test. The doc site is one that I own and put online about 10 days ago. Currently it only had 2 documents in it. That is what amazed me.

    Hey thanks for this share.

So the next obvious question is if you're submitting .pdf's to your very own doc share site, how well does your site actually rank in the first place?

Oooohh..I got it now. This open source doc sharing site is on a script you run, on a domain you own TIED to a twitter/web2.0 account you access.

Interesting setup..I can definitely see why it works..oh, and btw - I did the same exact thing a while ago with wiki's..same kind of results ;)

It is a brand new site with only 5 links to it now so it does not rank for anything. I think tomorrow will be the 2 week mark.

No the doc share is not tied to twitter or facebook. The microblog is so the link goes twitter --> MicroBlog --> Document URL --> Money Site. Think of it as a Y shape with the doc share at the bottom and the microblog at the intersection. I own both the microblog and the doc share site.

Yep Wiki sites do work. I have a service ready if it ever gets approved with a list of hundreds of wiki sites. I am also creating wiki sites with some spare domains. Gotta love it.
