    Hey guys,

The winter olympic games are occuring in Vancouver, BC this year, and it is my home town.

Does anyone have any creative way of how I can monetize this?

I can probably rent out a room or something at my house for some good money, I can see random shit on the streets (hotdogs, drinks, etc).

But there must be some other way better more creative ways.

    Here are some ideas:
    1. Olympic surveys: get tourists to fill out forms online to share their opinion of vancouver, the games, etc
    2. Official photos: hire pretty models to dress in official olympics gear and get them to pose with tourists, send them to some website to collect their "me and the olympics babes" photo
    3. Counterfeit Olympics merchandise. nuff said.
    4. Run a contest: People submit their best 'Vancouver 2010' story for a chance to win some prize. they enter an email on the website to submit their story
    5. Sell souveneir guidebooks: Collect free information about the events, locations, history, etc and put it all together as a book. Print them at your local Kinkos or other print shop.
    6. Coupons: Arrange a deal with a local restaurant to give you a cut from any excess business they get from you, then print out branded coupons to hand out. Do this with several businesses and you can hand out coupon booklets..
    7. Find generic Canadian stuff to sell: Souveneir shops are filled with flags, shirts, sweaters, toys, mugs, etc with Canadian flags on them, as well as Vancouver-specific stuff.. Tourists would buy tons of that stuff.

Hope that gives you some better ideas than letting strangers sleep on your couch for a few bucks!

    Get emails.

In New York, my parents had a house near Cooperstown. It's where the Baseball Hall of Fame is located. They also have the Dreams Park there, where parents send their kids for a baseball camp type thing. Parents weren't allowed to stay at the park so everyone that had a house in the area would rent them out for the duration. A weekend would get my parents $6,000 for the two bedroom one bath house they had there.

The renting idea could work quite well.

Maybe you could post on CL that you are renting your Vancouver high-rise apartment but will need a credit check?

im living there right now too. best thing to do is find a wholesaler for flags then sell them around the site. you get them for $1 or somthing and you can flip them for $10 easyily. Grab some homeless bums from Hastings to help you out too.
