I found the most absurd thing that big G is aware and doesn't care.
Today I saw a huge drop in my trafic and naturaly went to google and typed my main keyword to see if I had been sandboxed. To my surprise, instead of finding mydomain.com in the top3 positions like in the past year, I have found a site like proxysite.appspot.com/mydomain. A google app engine site displaying all my content like if it was theirs.

I had no idead what was happening so I made a thread in here trying to find some answers. A member here at bhw told me that my site was "proxy hijacked". I went to find some answers about this phenomenon and I found that google support forums are full with threads with this same issue.

I looked arround and found dozens of people with this same problem claiming for help for almost 4 years now, and still no solution.

Lots of G emploees there telling people there is nothing they can do because if the proxy site is outranking their main site it must be because the algorithm determined that the proxy site is more relevant for the serps, and as my site goes as a dupe goes to nowhere.

Big joke. How can a 3 day site, with no backlinks and with all my site content be more important for the serps than my established and backlinked site?

I think this is a big failure in the "big g" system, because all I can think is that this can happen to anyone that has an unfair competitor.

    After beeing outranked? Or before?

Because most of the people who faced this problem never saw their site indexed again till a reinclusion form and waiting to slowly start ranking again.

You can also try blocking the specific IP address by adding this to .htaccess which blocks specific IP from accessing your site.

    Code:
    order allow,deny
    deny from 123.456.7.8
    allow from all

Not sure, but believe the IP address you need may be:209.85.229.141

    Best of luck!

OH man if this is the case I got alot of niches to ad to appspot.com. If you think about it makes sense. Your site is part of a PR 10 site ofcourse it will outrank you. G is truely stupid sometimes. That is why you need to abuse their stupidity!

most are over quota not a good way to run a site. but it probably also means they are getting shed loads of traffic!

Thats not the way people are using this. They basicly clone your site. Before the bots crawl your site they pass by the proxy site. So the visitors are acctualy not going to your site. Then they exceeed the quota because if the proxy site is down so your site will be and this means drops in the serps. That's the way I see this guys are doing this.

look like a nasty thing to do.

so is enough that I add a site to one of this proxy and there is chance that will replace the ranking of the legit site?

So where is your site listed?
Is it immediately following those sites? Or has it dropped to page 5, 6, or 7?

Happened to me 3 days ago, I found it today, and if you go to google support forum see for how many years this is going.

My site is nowhere to be found. Not all the pages, only those scraped by the proxy site. I have implemented some measures, will inform later when I see any change, but from what I read in the forums I think my site as to start ranking all over again for the keywords that the proxy site scraped my pages.

To be honest, this is the first that I knew about it also, but, as Kakizito says, I have found some threads discussing the same problem from circa 2004. You would think for a company as big as G that they would have resolved this problem by now.

The only solution that appears to work, as a preventative measure, is to use reverse and forward DNS. Whilst I understand the principle eg: checking that googlebot is from where it should be; I don't personally have the skills ls to set this up myself.

Nonetheless, can someone please explain the exact benefits to the proxy site, aside from stealing your rankings and being totally malicious?

If they are cloning your site and say you're selling a product or it's a MFA site, surely all the code remains the same? So, if they click on an Ad you get credit and if they click on the buy button they are redirected to your payment gateway?

    Thanks!

I believe that once they have the ranking, they can just change the page to their own. Or what?

Yes, all the content is mine but has the appspot has exceded the quota so the site is down, and being down will affect my real site in the serps, I think thats the way they can "hurt" me in the serps.

I have tried to block the proxy site by adding some code to the header and some permissions to the htaccess. But no success.

At first the proxy site was showing a 403 forbiden error so I though I had nailed this. But after some hours they are showing again a 503 over quota so I think they have access to my site :|

Don't know what else to do.

This is no different than any other site copying your content. They get their ranking power up higher than yours and the algorithm does its thing. I'm guessing they've got some script running that can change affiliate codes and stuff when it shows the content to the users.

Google can't just fix it. This is one of those things that is just a problem to resolve algorithmically. How would they do it? You just can't establish any sort of logic that would help.
