So I haven't read WF threads in a while but they are all about that "manual link building" and frown upon "automated tools" so much that it makes me want to puke.

I don't get these manual link builders and their condescending "righteous" attitudes against those that use automated tools. It's as if they believe building links manually is more "honorable" than by doing it through automation.

The bottom line is whether you build a link manually or by automation, you are still self-promoting your site. You don't care about that guy's blog or website, you just want a backlink to your site. It is not more moral if you do this by hand rather than by a tool.

It's analogous to killing someone. You can do it with a gun or by paper cutting them to death. Your intentions are still to kill, one is just more efficient than the other.

If you choose not to use automated tools and want to live in the stone age that's fine. Some of us want to make money though.

Not saying that there is no place in SEO for manual linkbuilding, just that it seems those that do it tend to be douches that I feel just don't know how to use software properly.

Haha sorry for the rant, but thanks for reading. :)

I quite like WF, it keeps a lot of IMers at the point where they simply can't compete with us at BHW.

    That's the spirit!

As long as it keeps retards and competition away, WF is golden!

Fuck morality. Honor's in the dollar. If spamming she shit out of sites gets you paid then you do it.

However... I have heard in multiple places that guest posts and relevant comments work wonders. That's mostly manual and very whitehat. If it works it works, nothing moral about it.

Automated link building is cool but to the extent that it doesn't raise any red flags

Using this logic a screwdriver is moral and drill + screwdriver bit is immoral.

    Weird.

I agree with them actually, to the point where I don't send emails anymore but spend 18 hours a day writing letters and licking stamps. It is so much more noble that way...

I build a lot of my links manually and it blows goats nuts, period. I would rather beat the hell out of my balls with a hammer than do it. (I build them manually for link pushes) I hate spinning shit too, but I would rather use TBS than do it manually. As long as the job gets done right, who cares? The minute I found this place I never went back to the WF.

The douche bags on there are a different breed. I know this one guy who has probably spent thousands on WSOs, and most of them are crap. BHW is the ultimate WSO.

If you're manually doing the same thing automated tools can do, you're doing it wrong.

The point of manual link building is to build connections with other more successful webmasters. Manual link building in my eyes should be treated like sales. Get to know the webmaster or author, pitch an idea or guest post, and finally ask for the sale (the link).

If your English isn't the greatest (or if you can justify the cost), pay a company like textbroker to knock out an article based on your pitch. I spend just over a grand a month in 4 to 5 star articles ($10-15 per article) and every one of them turns into at least one link. If you prospected your outreach list correctly, the article will get some comments/likes/tweets/etc which further juices up the link.

I've got tools and services running every day of the week to automate links, so I'm definitely a huge proponent of automation done correctly. However, if your SEO strategy relies solely on automated links, I think you're missing a big piece of the puzzle. That's certainly not to say it doesn't work, because I know it does.. For now. That for now is enough for me to work on longer-term strategies and link footprints designed to resist algorithm whims. =)

I'm just starting to go from manual to automated link building. Any chance you have some techniques that you recommend (i.e. prospecting/staying off spam lists/organizing email and response emails/negotiating at a faster clip). Thanks!

I like how the mods protect the reputed members and all complaints are removed and deleted almost instantly while they let these 'moral' people hawk their useless WSOs.
