I've read that pinging can leave a large footprint if you use the same IP address to ping all your backlinks at one go. It does sound somewhat ridiculous, but I if you ping Google or SEs directly, they can theoretically record your IP and know that it is only one person trying to get all those backlinks noticed, no?
Does Google know this? Will they get the IP address of the person who pinged the link(s)?

And what about 3rd party pinging services - Pingoat, Linklicious, etc?

Paranoid much, but better to be safe than sorry. I usually ping everything directly to the SEs and never thought of this until now.

I believe it does leave a footprint also. I suggest using a better service such as Lindexed.com (they use 100 domains) and also not pinging all of your backlinks.

Think about it... If all backlinks pointing to your site are found via a ping isn't it a little obvious?

Ye, I have thought about this as well, google would easily be able to trace all the backlinks coming from a known IP for pinging and then purposefully not index them because they would know they were created manually.

Haven't thought about this, but i don't ping my links anyway. Googles crawlers will eventually find all of the links anyway as long as there is atleast one other page pointing to them (internal links), so it's safer to let them get noticed naturally.

Good suggestion. Am currently using LL but will give Lindexed a try. Guess my paranoia turned out to be true.

    I'll answer this:

No. Unless Google has a secret pact with these services, or has hacked into their logs, then no, Google cannot find the IP address of the user.

Are you sure? Don't the services pass on the pinger's IP address to the SE's along with the ping information?
Also, pinging Google directly can obviously get your IP logged by them too.

Yes, of course when you visit Google (or any other website), your IP address is passed into their logs.

I'm 99.9% sure that pinging services do not pass our IP addresses! They are using proxies/VPN's to do so (mostly).

    Lindexed for now.

Doing some testing with other methods/services as well.

PM me if you want to exchange views about various services you used. I've used quite a number and have quite a handful of experience too. Otherwise, thanks for your information :] Guess I'll go with Lindexed.
