Hey BHW, I ran into the biggest case of botting I've ever seen on Instagram. This is HUGE. Im seeing posts with 700,000+ comments with avg. 3 mentions...that's upwards of 2 million users! I've been tagged in three of these now-All go like this:
    • 1. "Hook" Account - A single post with hundreds of thousands of comments and millions of mentions. All accounts at this layer direct to another account (The "Line").
    • 2. "Line" Account - A user with no posts, and a website in the bio.
    • 3. The "Sinker" Website - I've seen three so far, but they all have a generic landing page about winning an iphone 6/7 leading to RewardZone. I've done Whois on the domains and all of them have fake info, Yandex email accounts, and were bought with bitcoin.
Keep in mind, I've seen three of these so far, who knows how much deeper it goes? This botting is massive though - More than a million accounts. Some of them look hacked.

Would it be possible for you to share the "Hook" account via PM?

I'd guess they all have offshore DCMA ignored hosting too ?

Don't know how to check hosting. These are the domains:
    http://iphone6s-7.com
    http://www.phonezone-usa.com
    http://get-your-iphone6-now.com

Congratulations on finding someone doing mentions. It's been popular traffic source past 2-3 years minimum with plenty of posts here if you will search.

I wonder for how long these accounts last.. Also you need 1000's of accounts to do the mentions in comments and even those will get banned quickly.

That's actually the only way to make money on IG like that. You need a giant bot farm and cheap access to proxies, etc. Running a few hundred accounts can sometimes work, but they get knocked out too fast. You have to make a lot of money in a short period of time for this kind of setup to work.

BTW, as always, I mean real money, sure you can make $20/day with a small bot farm, and I wouldn't turn down $20/day, but I also won't work all day for it.

FB & Perkins Coie don't take kindly to phishing accounts for spam, see THIS ARTICLE of an identical situation on Facebook a few years back.

Whoever is behind that better be located in the 3rd world, have anonymous payments sorted out and proper privacy protection in place or they're in for a rough time. I would advise everyone to stay clear of phishing accounts, those are dangerous waters you don't want to be sailing in.
