I just found out that Instagram released a tagging feature a couple days ago (see https://www.instagram.com/p/BMokmydjG-M/). Right now, tagging is Instagram's weakest link as far as spam detection goes because it just came out and probably isn't polished yet.

Does anybody have any valuable insights on tagging and ways to abuse it while it's fresh? I'm going to run some tests later today. If done right, I don't see why a person couldn't tag either small amounts of different people frequently, or large amounts of people infrequently, especially because tagging is fresh.

Let's post our tests and findings related to Instagram tagging here.

btw, would this have anything to do with random people tagging me on instagram?

maybe my experience can give you some sort of idea or make something click. or, maybe not.

started happening about a week ago, i have a closed private profile, only friends and family, and i follow a bunch of pages. randomly i get notifications to say i've been tagged, and the image is of some sort of product, or page with hot girls etc.

i usually just untag myself and move on, but yesterday i saw the image and everyone who was tagged had a username starting with the letter "k" i was driving so i ignored the tag, and after a couple hours i went to the notification to untag myself to find all the tagged usernames starting with the letter "s".

so i guess they were just tagging and untagging people from a list just long enough to get their attention. unless you are an instanazi you would see yourself untagged and move on and not report the page or image.

staying under the radar perhaps? but i think that would be tedious work unless you automatize it.

i dont know. i'm 420. if it makes sense, good. if not, ask me to clarify later.

I think that that's "Instagram Mentions" are. Basicaly a bot mentions people that are targeted in some way, to a profile that wanna reach out to their competitors, friends or anything else. Perfect way to grow a instagram account.

Yes, thanks for bringing this up. I guess it would be useful depending on how many people you can tag and whether they have to be following you or not. Also, a downside is it has to be done on mobile, so there's that. I guess if you had a list of usernames you could just copy and paste it.
