This has value in all forms of business, but I rarely (if ever) hear people mention it as part of your start-up investment.
Buy yourself a quality External Hard Drive. I'm using Toshiba's Canvio 500GB and have loved it since my purchase. It's slim and portable so you can't bitch about space.
Realizing how many times my previous computer shut down, there are few things worse than losing all of your digital contracts, designs, projects etc.
Many of you may use Clouds and that's acceptable as well.
I'm simply pointing out an additional business cost you may have skipped or just not seen a need for. Having all of your EXTREMELY precious documents in a safebox (you can buy limitless hard drives of all sizes) saves you from legal and customer trouble down the road. If you're doing ORM or Design (like me) you better protect your clients info.

I know this isn't one of the most "Oh my God this guy's freaking amazing!" posts you'll see on BHW. Just keeping my family informed and safe here.
Thanks for reading everyone. Have a wonderful Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah/New Years and other Holidays you celebrate!

    Sincerely,
    -Funky

anyone that does not have a backup-drive...
...may it be an external hd or a cloud-account...or better just both - or does print out the really relevant stuff has just failed at a certain point in being a "buisnessman".
...sorry: "entrepeneur" would have been better i guess.

It's really leaving it to chance otherwise. External HD's are not very expensive and cover your ass in so many ways. Far easier than your comp going to the graveyard and needing to physically remove the internal HD. In the words of most kids today: Ain't nobody got time fo that.
When you're building a business worth having, money shouldn't be a concern anyway. Too many people start a company with small goals & wonder why their business doesn't expand OR can't handle growth. Keeping your things where you can always obtain them is key.
