Google’s John Mueller says he doesn’t think search engines will ever advance to a point that SEO becomes obsolete.

When asked for his vision of the future of SEO, Mueller responds:

I don’t know. Good question. I don’t have that five minute answer on the future of SEO. I think one of the things that people always worry about is everything around machine learning and that Google’s algorithms will get so far as to automatically understand every website and SEO will be obsolete, nobody will need to do that. I don’t think that will happen.

So what do you think guys?

What will happen after 3/5 years in the SEO industry?

I think the future of SEO is bright. As I know AI is emerging but SEO has its own purpose.

Nothing will happen! Google will change their algorithms and SEO technique will update simultaneously! rather off-page will less importance than that time. Google always looking for best on-page SEO optimization. Like good article, alt tag, meta etc.

SEO is transforming. Anyone working in the online space needs to consider how they can be more creative with strategy and work collaboratively to optimize websites and increase long-term user engagement.

SEO was partly who had the deepest pockets to buy the best backlinks.... not anymore!

SEO will remain an important avenue of marketing for the foreseeable future. Off-page is going strong and its importance is only going to increase with time.

People have been saying this for years. Backlinks continue to be important and I don't see their importance decreasing anytime soon. If anything, off-page will become even more important than before all thanks to AI-generated content.

Until now, Google considered off-page SEO as more important. I think that will change. The algorithm will fully understand what's going on on the page, whether it's telling something useful or not. In this way, Google will better understand what is being said in the articles, whether it is spam or quality content.

In future, It's chasing game.
We will try to make new trick and technique to build and boost a site. Even Google will create new updates and algorithm to compensate those technique. Like one over other. More and more updates and algorithm, we have to face these changes.

Future of SEO is great if we don't depend on Google. It's a trap

SEO is transforming. Anyone working in the online space needs to consider how they can be more creative with strategy and work collaboratively to optimize websites and increase long-term user engagement. Therefore I would say that we'll have to strengthen our SEO practices because things are not going to be easy with future google updates.
