I've seen it claimed that there are only 20 or so SB sites that are worth using for your site, or to get your backlinks indexed... because G ignores the low quality SB sites.

I've done both strategies... using only 20 (Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit etc..) and saving myself some time and captcha money, and using about 500 different sites. Both seemed effective, but I used them with so many other BLing methods that I can't be sure.

I have nothing conclusive so I thought I'd open this up to debate.

The lower quality SB sites used to be effective for help with indexing, and if they had PR then they would pass some PR. But these days there are so many downed sites and many are fixed to disallow spam that it's become cumbersome in my experience to deal with them, so I just use other indexing methods that are more effective in the end. The top 10+ SB sites are better for promoting real, human click-throughs than they are for indexing or SEO, in my opinion.
