the best option to do backlinking?

Hi!
What do you think, is the best option to do backlinking from external sites?

1. Linking to only my homepage with the same main anchor.
2. Linking to my homepage and my subpages with rotated anchor, adjusted to the subject of subpage.

The best backlinks should :
1. The link should use the keyword in the anchor text
2. The link should be from a relevant page
3. The link should go to a relevant page on your site
4. It's good if the link is from an authority site
5. The link must not have a nofollow attribute

wouldnt it kill sales if you are linking to another website? like let's say im doing a website on chocolate. what would i link to? i wouldnt link to hersheys and nestle if im trying to sell my chocolate right?

The links go the other way - you want to put links on other sites, related to your niche, that use your keyword phrase. Not links from your site to your competitors - that would clearly be a dumb move!

So for a chocolate site if you want to rank for "white chocolate buttons" you would use that as your link text and get it wherever you can, e.g.

- Web 2.0 properties that you create, just about chocolate buttons
- Forum posts about foods, sweets, recipes, chocolate, treats, gifts etc
- Comments on blogs about chocolate etc where you put your name as "white chocolate buttons" because that's what gets linked to your website

and so on.
