    Hi all,

I started a youtube channel yesterday (7 videos and 10k views) and was wondering how to actually START making money. I'm not talking about creating a following etc etc, but more the technical side of it:

Never have used Adsense before, but am I right if can both place advertisements on youtube with adsense (in which case I'd spend money for publicity) OR accept cash from youtube for the views my videos have?

I'm somewhat lost in how to just signup so that youtube can start paying me in the future.

How does this work? I want to convert views in

Am I correct that I don't get paid anything before my channel totals 1 mil. views? After that 1 millionth view, does youtube starts to pay from then on, or do I get revenue for that past 1 mil views too?

I don't make money myself from YT, but you have to be a YouTube partner in order to make money from adsense ads on your videos. You could read more about it here:

    youtube (dot) com / yt / creators / partner.html

you get into a network that will pay you for content on a basic $x for 1k monetized views. They don't count ad-block or mobile views which makes up 40% of a drop off. Also, you will need to get X subscribers and X views per day to join some networks. I suggest that you think about what niche you are going to go into, and how you are going to go about presenting yourself to that niche. Now with the new youtube layout looming on the horizon it will be more beneficial to have AAA content for a target audience.
