Today I thought I'd try to be helpful and to try and give back a little (even if it's over something relatively basic) and write a guide on spinning text. I'll be using the curly bracket ({}'s) format, the most common one by my standards.

Along the way, you can enter any of the text in CODE tags into an online spinner such as http://www.uniquecontentspinner.com/ to see how they work or a program like Power Article Rewriter (available int he Member's Downloads section.)

In case you're unaware and clicked this topic by accident, the act of spinning text means to add a bit of randomness to it by allowing the program you're using, such as a WordPress Comment Spammer like UCWS or Scrapebox, to have something different to say each time.

For example, take a look at the following bit of text.

How much time would it take you to write out the following?

Great for comment spam, right? :) (Eat your heart out, Akismet.)

The source for my piece of spun text is

    Code:
    I {love|enjoy|like{| reading| posting on}} {BHW|bhw|black hat world|Black Hat World}. {:D |:) |^^ |}{They{| are {forums|boards} that}|The {boards|forums|bbs}} provide {free|awesome|infomrative|new} {guides|ideas|tutorials|posts} (and {tools|downloads|books}!) to {help|assist|serve} with {making {money|a living|a fortune|a bajillion dollars}} and {blackhat {SEO|search engine optimization|}{| tricks}}.
That's right, it's as simple as typing {word 1|word 2}. You put the list of words in curly braces and then use a | as a seperator. Keep in mind that what you enter will exactly show up. For example:

    Code:
    I like {tacos|fish|chicken |pizza}.
This has a major fault because it will produce the following string:

Not very "humanlike" if your entire message has errors like that, right? In other words, be sure you enter exactly what you wnat into each bracket.

You can also, depending on the tool you're using, employ nested brackets. For example:

    Code:
    I like {{some |a few{ kinds| types|} of} tacos|fish|chicken|pizza}.
    Pretty neat, eh?

That's it. You've just completed Text Spinning 101. Now here's the primer on Text Spinning 102. (In other words, here's how to effectively employ spinnable text.)

When you're using spinnable text, you either have one of two objectives. (1) You want to say the same thing multiple times or (2) you want to say something not-spammy multiple times.

    (2) is the point I'll specifically cater to. When you spin text, remember that you not only can say "I love ..." but you can also take the complete opposite stance and say "I hate ..." or "I don't really like ..." or even "I can't stand ..." Doing this can boost your approval rate, for example, when you comment on moderated blogs. I've gotten several authors to even reply to me. :D And don't take this just at face level, make sure to play around with pronouns. "He is tired." and "She is tired." are two completely possible spins.

There's another (major) point that needs to be addressed when it comes to article spinning: Article uniqueness. Roughly, this describe show different one spin of your article is from another. Ultimately, it stems from how many variations your spinnable text has. In oher words, you need to add as many (readable) spins to your text as possible in order to get a decent uniqueness and avoid the banhammer from things like Akismet.

Lastly, some tips for spinning success.

    • If you're stumped on how to rewrite something, start form scratch. Compare what your originally wrote and see how it's different. This is how I increase the uniqueness from one piece of spinnable text.
    • Never discount the fact that you can spin text WITH errors in it. Just make sure that they are human errors, such as misspellings and whatnot. Just don't expect "Idrove SIXTEEN MILES to Arizona State because I YELLOW DOG" to fly unless you're spamming a Schizophrenia forum (or something?)
    • When you enter an anchor tag, remember that you're entering text that will be converted to html. In other words, you can spin your anchors. Remember this, as it can be a great improvement over having the same anchor text listed at the end of your article or paragraph over 7000 sites.
    • Before you commit to a piece of spun text, spin it about 50 times. This is to ensure that there's not an error or something you've missed. This can help your endeavors in the land of spinning tremendously.
That's it! And don't forget that there's a working copy of Power Article Rewriter that you can download and use in the member's section. It's especially useful because it highlights spun text (and allows you to pick from a thesaurus of words) so you can tell at a glance if you missed a bracket.

Cheers and I hope this was helpful!
(And any tips anyone who reads this has to contribute are overly welcome. I am not an encyclopedia on this.)

how long does it take to write a source file that will generate 5 unique articles as compared with the amount of time it would take to rewrite 1 unique article 4 times?

Obviously once you have the source file (sometimes called "seed") then spinning it is super fast, but how long does it take to create the seed with all the possible permutations?

Glad to hear it mate. :D And I won't lie, I actually ran (err.. cyber-ran?) to see if there were such threads in the downloads section.

Generally, it takes less time if you do everything perfectly right off the bat. I can usually add five synonyms in maybe 10 seconds compared to the time it would take to rewrite a sentence 5 times (copy and pasting included). But this only holds true for very short pieces of text.

If you're writing something that's more than 300+ words, I find it that it would generally be easier for me to either rewrite it 5 times from scratch and enjoy the additional uniqueness or use the Dragon Naturally Speaking software trick and just say what I want to write.

The advantage of spinning, or at least the main advantage, is that you can write several hundred permutations of one piece of text that can be used in something automated that might post a thousand times.

As far as how many permutations you get per spin, I believe (forgive me because this is probably incorrect as it's been a long while since I thought about permutations) that there are somewhere in the order of the a*b*...*y*z possibilities where a = the number of selectable elements in your first tag, b = the number in the second and so on.

As for time.. Well, generally it's faster for text to be spun. That is, of course, unless you have several thousand outsourced writers that can do it for you.

Yeah dude but just because some of it is unique doesn't mean the search engines will see it as unique.

So many of the possible permutations will be useless. Hopefully you get what I mean.

How many similar words in a row can occur before it is no longer considered "unique?"

I believe it's anywhere from 20-40% uniqueness for search engines. Which means that 20-40% of that spun phrase is 'new.'
