There's a theory that it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert at something. I think Malcolm Gladwell might've made the idea famous but I don't know if he created it.

Anyway, I spent the last hour checking some method threads here and was consistently blown away with the good ideas and clever tips.

One person opened a thread just to explain how to make money on Myspace, which I thought was dead years ago. In another thread someone asked a question about making money without a site, and answers came in like it was a pop quiz. There's so much info on this forum that it kind of freaks me out.

So here's my thought. If it supposedly takes 10,000 hours to become an "expert," how many hours do you think it takes to make good money with BHW? (Define good money however you want.)

I feel confident that a halfways-intelligent person spending 14 hours a day here for two weeks, soaking it up, then spending 14 hours a day working out the methods, could be making money in about 200 hours (14x14).

They wouldn't be an expert, but you don't really have to be if you cut out the middleman and just get the great ideas straight from the experts.

    So a few questions...

How many hours do you think you spent here before you started making good money?

How long do you spend here per day now? Is any of it a waste? Any suggestions for finding the BEST most USEFUL threads instead of getting stuck in trollsville?

And if you spent 10,000 hours divided between BHW and IM, how much money would you have made? Holy cow.

Just my two cents - I think you all sort of broke that theory!

Everybody is different and the 10,000 hour rule is the most stupid thing I've ever heard. You don't need to read/spend/waste that much time on this Forum. Find something that makes sense and get to work, it's not rocket science.

Keep your eyes open for opportunities and apply little twists to methods and make bank, it's really that easy. Anyone can make money online.

It takes a fw minutes to read a good thread on BHW .....a few minutes to start doing it in real time......you can do it for a lifetime....but you will always need BHW to find Information and new catches.......people here have seen the days of cookie stuffing ...and even now when adsense accounts are treated as most precious assets........so all together....it depends on you...if you want to become a jack of all trades or master of one

I think your passion can make you an expert much quicker than 10,000 hours for non-physical type expertise. I think one great piece of advice comes from a marketing guru and that is to not get hung up on perfection. If you wait until you are an 'expert' to make money, you will miss many opportunities.

Find something on here that resonates with you. Something that makes you say I CAN DO THAT. And then do it. Figure it out along the way, but get started as quickly as you can once you have enough basic knowledge under your belt.

That sounds more like 100 hours than 10,000 to me. :)

Honestly I believe someone can start making money once they find a solid method that they can stick to. Most beginners here create threads questioning their method that they've tested for two weeks and consider it a non working method. Most get too caught up with reading every new thread and post on BHW or buying/downloading eBooks.

So this is interesting, it seems like so far a lot of folks are suggesting rather than immerse yourself in BHW for a while just start trying stuff out and see what works.

I'm one of those people who loves to know everything I can before I start something, so I'd probably spend a few extra days learning how things work, but your point is valid!

    First, define "Expert"!
I do not think there is somebody called truly expert in this fast changing world.
The only thing matters is "action"
    that is my 'theory' :)

Sure, I can't define expert--my thought was just that there's a difference between making money and being an expert. Etc.

people who think they're an expert on anything or everything will eventually find out they are mistaken things aren't always moving forward a you can be an expert for a short time but you will never be an expert forever you'll eventually lose touch and the less flexible you are the more you will lose touch at a faster pace

I think you're right about this being mentioned in one of Gladwell's books.

His specific example was how the Beatles spent thousands of hours playing small venues like bars for years before they made it big and that it was this time that they mastered their instruments and playing together.

While this might be true for them, I don't think it holds true for everything.

The important thing to point out is that reading a forum four hours every day does not make you an expert at anything other than reading a forum and knowing the different methods other people are using.

It's the application of the methods, the testing and failing and testing again of those methods that makes you an expert.

It's rare that someone has a secret to making money where there is some mystical "trick" they know that others don't

Rather it is being able to know every little nuance of a method and how they work together that makes the difference and that is only achieved through application and hard work.

Frankly, I seriously doubt there's such a thing as an "expert" in IM... Even the most EPIC individuals on this forum have simply found something; perfected it into a money making method they could call their own through trial and error, then moved on to find another method to add to their arsenal. The idea of a "Guru" who knows everything there is to know about internet marketing is just THAT... an idea...

This statement is more important than most beginners realize. Especially the trial and error part.

spending 14 hours a day is not going to help you be a IM. You'll spend 10,000 hours reading and money will pass you bye. Failure is going to make you a great IM. You need to find ways to make money and come across 1,000 ways how not to make money.
