I'm working on this content writing project which is already late. My dad calls on the phone and asks me to go to Walmart and get my mom some Twizzlers.

I told him no bc I'm working.

He said "It'll only take 10 minutes."

I said "No. I said I'm working. I don't call you and tell you to get me something while you're working. That's rude and it disrupts your productivity."

He said "You're working at home. You can come right back to it when you finish."

I exploded. "What makes you people think I can just get up and go do whatever I want to do just because I work from my house? Working from home is still a job! I have deadlines to meet!"

"It'll only take 10 minutes," he said.

"Then you go do it," I said. And I hung up.

Then I shut my phone off.

I really want to set something on fire right now.

I know it sounds like I've blown up over nothing but they are always asking me to do stupid things just because I'm at home. I'm still working. Just because I'm on the couch in front of a laptop doesn't mean I'm not working. I think they honestly believe my job is easy and I don't do any real work. So that means I'm just at their beck and call since I have so much free time.

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.

Give them the challenge of trying to make more money online than you do in 24 hours. They'll shut up once they realise they can't do it.

If you don't want to do that, then when you can afford it, lease an office space or a shared office space and go there when everyone starts bothering you.

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it doesn't matter.

Sort of does. If you're over the age of 18, I definitely recommend moving out and eliminating future problems like this.

So you want me to abandon my old parents who are physically breaking down and need to be taken care of so that they won't bother me anymore?

Nice to see what kind of person you are.

I love how everyone assumes that grown people who live with their parents need to leave.

First of all, they live with me. I don't live with them. It's my house.

Secondly, my parents are old and they're breaking down. I help to take care of them.

I love my parents. I'm not going anywhere and neither are they. That doesn't mean they don't get on my nerves though.

I'm just venting, not looking for advice on how to live my life. We've all had those moments when we realize our family just doesn't get it. This is mine.

Does anyone else want to judge me or offer super non-helpful advice? I'll even take a few trolls. Where's mickyfu and Huges? They always make me laugh.

Lmao wtf. Well, you did make a thread b*tching about your "old physically breaking down" parents interrupting you so you can buy them candy. If this is the case... Take 10 minutes out of your day and make them happy, jesus christ... They aren't going to be around much longer, IM can wait.

Great to know. I'll remember that for future posts.

Never said you couldn't. But I honestly do suggest doing small things like that to make them happy, I'm sure it would mean the world to your dad, and it's only 10 minutes of your time.

We're suppose to be on the same team here not bickering with each other.

OP wanted to vent so he vented. I'm 33 and my brother still calls me 6 days / week to be his dogs slave. Cause we live 2 mins from each other yet he works 1 hour away. So somehow it became my job to waste 30 mins everyday letting his 2 dogs out. I go drive there, give them lunch and water. Gotta wait for both to finish. Open the door outside, sit on a bench and wait for them to shit & piss.

If 1 doesn't shit, then I gotta play with the fucker to get his bowels moving. If that doesn't work then I gotta drive back home feeling guilty like I need to go back in 2 hours to let them out again. I have to waste my time and feel guilty cause he can't call a fucking dog walker. The one time he did I got phone calls from my other brother, mother telling me "he's your brother, you love him, just do it" LOL WTF.

When I explain the math they just don't get it. 300 days a year (work days approx) + avg of 30 mins = 150 hours I'm wasting every year watching his dogs sniff the ground and shit.

At an 8 hour work day that almost 1 full month every year I have to watch his dogs shit. Nobody gets it. Just cause I'm your neighbor doesn't mean I'm your dogs fucking slave.

Anyway, I understand what OPs talking about. Family is family, they can be annoying no matter what your age but you do your best cause you love them. And every once and a while you flip out and tell them to just STFU. :D

If you are still living with your parents you should not complain about this unless you pay their rent. If you do then it's ok

Something many members here forget about is that this forum is diverse; every member here comes from a different background, they have different goals, and they make different lifestyle choices. In some cultures, living with your parents and grandparents even while married is completely acceptable or even encouraged (multi-generational homes). I'm sure there are even other members here who are in that situation because they're taking care of physically or mentally ill relatives who use the money they make to pay for treatments and medication.

Keeping the diversity of this forum in mind before posting exemplifies great community standards; don't make snide comments for a false sense of superiority.
