So my mate who I assure you knows nothing about hacking - he runs his families DIY online store in Thailand - has been contacted by the Thai police who state that a high profile politicians email account was hacked and left political abusive messages - and traced it to his IP.

He has to visit the a Thai police station Thursday.

Would anyone have any advice about what to do???

I have no idea about hacking but I'm guessing the person who did it used a proxy and it just turned out to be his.

Again - any advice would be greatly welcome as he's basically bricking it.

Thanks so much if anyone can help here.

Just tell them the truth. Their investigation should clear all of this up.They can check his computer to see if the messages did indeed actually come from there. Then again look at other family members. Any of them have an axe to grind with that politician?

No - they all live in Cardiff lol.

He's never had any problem with the law. Turns out it happened at 3am Dec 26th Thai time ffs! He's a bit hazy on that moment in time. He has a Thai friend speaking with the politician as I write. They came to his apartment but didn't have a warrant.
He has nothing to hide so like u said should be fine - cheers.

He should say he has an unsecured wifi and that anyone could have used it.

If your mate did nothing wrong, then there is no need to be afraid.

I am not getting this, his IP is in Cardiff? and Thai Police turned up there?

if so just tell them to do one as they have no jurisdiction there

If he is in Thailand tracing IP's is near on impossible as everything comes from Bangkok and there is no real trace to a single PC so I would ask him to ask the police for proof
