If I put some text in black over a background image of black so that it's not easily visible to users, is this detected by G and penalized?

Are they able to detect the color of a background image?

No, I think he is asking about keyword stuffing. I have seen it work sometimes, but if a competitor site finds you using it, he will most likely rat you out. About it's effectiveness? I think its actually ability to boost rankings is pretty weak and the risk penalty outweighs the perks.

Why not just insert text into a hidden DIV? There are plenty of legitimate reasons for having a hidden div, like a "click here to read more" link which opens the hidden div to reveal more content.

I assume that black text over a black background is easily traced by Google.

Use this page to check for "spam inclination" on a given website:

G might not be able to see it, but they will definitely see keyword density

It was used years ago for keyword stuffing yet with all the updates google is trying to prevent these kinds of methods. Its better to do a fiver link pyramid. If I were you I would spend 15 bucks on fiverr.
    1.) Have a video intro made $5
    2.) Do a video submission $5
3.) Have an edu or gov blog pyramid created $5
If you can only muster up 10 you can remove 2 and add the video to a blog and do #3

Go advanced by learning about IFTTT or get the tool IFTTT backlink commando. For learning potential I would get a tool like Backlinkbeast or Moneyrobot or Licorne AIO or XGen SEO or ZSubmitter or Article Marketing Robot. (I listed a few but any one will do. I found my SEO knowledge increased just listening to and watching the videos from the tutorials when learning the tools. The tools are not necessary they helped me learn by providing a focal point. Get/find a copy of Dream-Niches.pdf This is all about thinking outside the box. Becker and Cass really know how to speak in a way which inspires creativity and creative thought.

I wouldn't do such an obviouse...thing. It's a very bad habit to think that Google is so stupid. I'm pretty sure that everyone who countinues to do that one day will come back to BHW with a question "Help, why G penalized me?.."
    P.S. Sorry for imotions ;-)

Hidden text? Google always looks for that. I used to work for them, and I was trained to hunt for it.
