I've heard that Google has a way to detect if text is readable on a page (ie, if the background and foreground colour are the same). Can anyone tell me if we know whether it is possible for Google to tell if text which has an image in the background is readable over that image? Having seen what the Captcha / Decaptcha software is capable of I can imagine that it is possible.

If indeed it is, how about boxes that are hidden on a page, in order to be revealed by Javascript? Does this mean that content in those boxes are likely not to be indexed as well?

    Brilliant, thanks :)

One other thing. would submitting a sitemap to Google harm me if I'm using this tactic?? I'm still unsure of why some have said not to use Webmaster Tools.
