I'm seeing a thin site on a low comp keyword ranking 1st in google. What this guy has done is created a 1 article for the homepage. He has then created 9 categories in the sidebar with alternatives versions of the same keyword. ie "product-name"-reveiw, "product-name"-download Each category anchor text in the side bar loads the exact same article 9 times with 9 different permalinks (category/product-review-pdf/, category/product-review-download/, category/product-guide-review/, etc). To avoid duplicate content it looks like he no-indexed the duplicate categories. However, he also has those same 9 categories keywords again linking to duplicate content through tags (tag/product-review-pdf/, tag/product-review-download/) He forgot to no-index these so these 9 pages of duplicate tag pages are indexed. Every single one of the 9 /tag/ duplicate content pages has the same fucking META description in the SERPs as well. I am wondering: 1) How is he ranking 1st for this keyword with this shitty spam on-page seo? My assumption is he will get slapped in a week or two, but how did he even initially rank? Let alone 1st place. 2) What is the mindset here, this goes against everything I have learned?
